Fold the lining over to the wrong side, halfway between these two lines. Pin to secure and sew along the line to form a casing for the dowel.

Measure two pleat depths up from the line of stitching and mark a line, and another 2,5cm above it. Sew in the same way as the first casing. Measure, mark and sew the remaining casings in the same way as the previous one with two pleat depths in between.

Along the bottom edge of the fabric panel, press a 1,5cm-wide hem to the wrong side.

Fold the bottom edge over a second time and press a 4cm-wide hem.

Place the fabric and lining wrong sides together, with the bottom edge of the lining on the second hem crease of the fabric. The fabric side edges should extend 1cm on either side of the lining.

Ensure that both layers are lying flat and then pin the fabric hem over the lining. Sew the hem in position leaving one end open where the batten will be inserted.

Place the blind on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles. Pin the first casing to the blind, measuring between the hem and casing as you pin to ensure the casing lies in a straight line.

Sew through both layers immediately next to the line of casing stitches. Pin and sew the remaining casings in the same manner as the first.

At the top edge, sew through both layers 1,5cm from the cut edges. Press both layers 1,5cm over to the wrong side. Pin the Velcro 2mm in from the folded edge and sew in position.
