Porvoo Energy to increase production

District heat production will be increased at Porvoo Energy Ltd by a new boiler plant, which will be built by KPA Unicon Ltd at Loviisa in Finland. With this new boiler plant the use of renewable fuels for energy production will be boosted from 70% to 90%. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 14 September.

Porvoo Energy is owned by the city of Porvoo and is responsible for electricity and heat produc- tion, sales and distribution of heat and natural gas and sales of electricity, as well as corporate governance. Porvoo Energy’s sub- sidiary, Porvoo Electricity Network Ltd’s main task is the distribution of electricity.

to produce hot water for the city´s district heating network. The delivery is a turnkey project, including Unicon Biograte com- bustion technology, all process equipment, buildings, installation works, commissioning and train- ing for the operational personnel. The plant will be handed over to the customer in April, 2016. The parties have also signed a five years’ service agreement to facilitate forecasting the service and maintenance works at the plant. The agreement also guar- antees support during the plant’s life cycle.

“The service agreement is good example of the new thinking on life cycle services. Life cycle services have become a very im- portant issue when deciding the boiler plant supplier,” said Jukka Rouhiainen, Porvoo Energy’s Development Director. “The most

important things for which we chose KPA Unicon to supply the new boiler plant was that they had a suitable solution for us,

feasibility of the investment and price.”
