Anyone for Gliding? by Mr Nigel Smith and Sgt Paul Bellingham I
f you are Serving in the RAF, have a bit of free time and like the idea of learning to glide, look no further than the RAF Gliding and
Soaring Association.
New members are always welcome and there are many clubs in and around the UK which operate on weekends and bank holidays. Run by volunteers, all teaching is conducted by qualified gliding instructors and is free of charge.
Membership of the RAFGSA is from £27, based on a junior rank. (SNCO and Officers £66). A training flight can cost from as little as £4.50. Prices vary depending on the club’s location.
Clubs also offer 'taster' flights, also available as gifts, if you would like to come and try out gliding before fully joining the GSA. Prices start from £20.
As a member of the GSA you could even
find yourself on one of our world gliding expeditions. Previous locations include The French Alps, Australia and Chile.
Additionally, you can learn to glide for FREE under the Adventorous Training scheme. Further details can be found on the RAFGSA website
