Parade brings global theme to town centre

HUNDREDS of people enjoyed the glorious sunshine as the Maid- stone Parade wound its way around the streets. The spectacular parade with the

theme “Around the World” in- volved more than 20 walking groups from schools, churches, charities, youth and community groups, accompanied by choirs and bands. Places represented in colourful costumes included Africa, Brazil, Italy andHawaii while the children from Jubilee Church dressed as aeroplanes from across the world. There were also live music and

dance performances in the town. The event was organised as part

of Maidstone Arts Festival by Maidstone Town Team, in conjunc- tion with Maidstone Council and the Town Centre Management.  For more pictures of the parade see www.downsmail.co.uk

News Trees at risk

TWO protected lime trees could be removed at The White Rabbit pub in Sandling Road, Maid- stone. A planning application says

one of the trees is dead and within falling distance of the road and car park area. It says the other has a low canopy and is the subject of an instruction let- ter by Maidstone Council. Workis also proposed for trees including two limes, two bud- dlieas, a sycamore, ivy and all other vegetation – all the subject of the council's instruction letter. The council will decide the ap- plication.
