to cancel millions of dollars of proj- ects. Read about all the ways highway funding has affected our industry in Steve Brawner’s article “Highways Still Waiting for Congress, State to Act” on page 27. Despite some grim news about
highway funding and the driver short- age, all the presenters were upbeat and entertaining as well as informative. None so much as featured speaker T. Boone Pickens. The legendary oil tycoon in his 80s sat down with J.B. Hunt’s EVP and COO Craig Harper for a Q and A that had everyone in a attendance leaning in to learn and laughing at other times. Pickens talked about a gla- cier-speed transition to natural gas due to lacking infrastructure and offered his
opinions on the Keystone Pipeline and how its progress will create more jobs for trucking. Board Chairman Butch Rice,
Stallion Transportation Group, and new board members Bryan McDuffie, Tyson Foods; Doug Voss, University of Central Arkansas; and Todd Venable, MHC Kenworth of Little Rock were named on Thursday, and Dr. John Ozment was honored for his service to the ATA Board of Directors and contributions to the industry upon his retirement. No conference would be com-
plete without a party, and this year provided several opportunities for eating and drinking together. A Gold Sponsor reception was held at the Superior Bathhouse & Brewery. Guests
enjoyed onsite craft beers and a view of downtown Hot Springs. Everyone at the conference was invited to attend the Chairman’s Celebration Thursday night. Little Rock band The Goodtime Ramblers provided entertainment. The event ended with a golf tour-
nament at the Hot Springs Country Club. It was the perfect day on the course with 18 teams. The first place trophies went home with Bill Dawson of Transport Refrigeration of Northwest Arkansas, Ben Cunningham of Love’s Travel Stops, and Jeff Smith of Utility Tri-State, Inc. This year’s conference was one of
the best yet, but we plan to top it next year in Little Rock. Mark your calen- dars for May 18-20, 2016. ATR
