Shield Winners - Harbour Specialist School


which they could create a competition alongside mainstream schools for year five and six pupils. They have previously competed in a number of virtual competitions and have had some promising results and this was seen as the next logical step.


After having a number of discussions with Lauren Edwards from the Canterbury Sports Partnership, it was decided that a 5-a-side football tournament might be the best place to start. Kent Sport contacted the Kent FA’s equalities and inclusion officer, Natalie Curtis, to discuss the plans for the tournament and ask for their support, which would lend credibility


to the event. Kent FA agreed that the tournament was a great idea and were more than happy to get involved.


Jake set about contacting all of the behavioural, emotional, social and learning difficulty special schools in Kent (there are currently four, Rowhill School, Harbour School, St Anthony’s School and of course the Orchard School) to compete in the tournament so that all of the schools in this situation would benefit. Jake also contacted a number of schools located close to the Orchard School to enter the competition and was very pleased that eight Schools gladly accepted the invitation (Sheldwich, Canterbury


Cup Winners - Bridge & Patrixbourne


Primary, St Peter’s Methodist, St Stephen’s Juniors, Wincheap, Bridge & Patrixbourne, Sturry and Wickhambreaux).


The Tournament


The tournament consisted of three groups of four teams playing in a league format (mixed teams) with the group winners and runners up entering a knockout cup and the other teams contesting a shield. All participants were issued with a certificate and a Kent FA ‘goodie bag’ for taking part.


All of the children in attendance enjoyed the day immensely. They all
