Funding Tips

Peoples Health Trust recently announced that 50% of applications from Kent and Medway were rejected at the Eligibility stage in their last funding round.

It sounds simple, but before putting all the hard work and effort of pulling

an application together, read the guidance notes thoroughly to ensure your project is eligible, and that your application meets the key criteria. It is essential to understand different funders will have different criteria and eligibility.

Kent Sport offer guidance in identifying who the best funders are to apply for, dependent on your needs. In addition, we offer advice and support in pulling together funds bids and ensuring you are in the best position to succeed with your application.

Testimonial

New Ash Green is a village on the outskirts of Sevenoaks, Dartford and Gravesend and it soon became obvious that there were not enough activities for young children within the village which meant having to travel a distance.

My son still plays basketball and my grandson is very active and enjoys

sport so we approached the Village Hall who was delighted for us to use their facilities and after speaking to a local councillor who was very fully supportive of the project, together with a group of parents, we set up Mini Ballers.

New Ash Green Mini Ballers is affiliated to the local primary school

14 The Kent & Medway School Sports Magazine

where all the children come from and we are running weekly sessions for up to 20 children per session, aged from 5 to 10 years of age. The revenue grant from Kent Sport enabled us to purchase some kit and equipment towards us starting up; we also acquired a grant from Sevenoaks Council Big Community Fund to purchase backboards.

We set up the Club in February 2015 and affiliated with the governing body Basketball England through the Mini-Basketball Association who have been very supportive. The Club runs sessions from NAG Village Hall on Tuesdays from 5.45 to 6.45pm and further information can be obtained from Lyn Marsh – nagmb@outlook. com
