A HOMESICK former Maidstone schoolgirl who was working in Amsterdam jumped to her death from a 12th-floor window, an in- quest in the town was told. Catherine Leonard (21), from


Grove Street, Hunton went to Leeds University after leaving the sixth form at Oakwood Park Gram- mar School. She had settled in Amstelveen, a suburb of Amsterdam, where she was doing charity work when the tragedy occurred, on October 29 last year. An eyewitness called the police


after seeing a body falling from the block of flats where she lived. Emergency services discovered

£865 bill for flytipping


COMMERCIAL business owners have beenwarned about flytipping, following another successful prose- cution by Maidstone council. Ramazan Sasmaz, of Starburger


onWeek Street,was ordered to pay £865 after being found guilty of fly- tipping and failing to deal appro- priately with commercial waste. Sasmaz was fined £350 for fly-tip- ping and £180 for failing to securely store commercial waste. He must also pay £300 costs, and a £35 vic-


tim surcharge. He was convicted at Maidstone Magistrates Court after breaching a Maidstone Council notice. A council spokesman said:


“Every business has a legal respon- sibility when it comes to disposing of commercial waste. It should be collected by a licensed waste car- rier.”

Patricia Harding said: “Catherine Elizabeth Leonard died as a result of her own deliberate act and itwas her intention to cause her own death by so doing.” The coroner said that, prior to her


death, Miss Leonard had been “quiet” and said shewas homesick.

dren’s choir, dance troupes, vintage army trucks and the Woofs Dog Show. The afternoon will be rounded off with children’s and adults races and the tug ofwar. Anyone interested in entering


their dog in the show should come along before the show begins at2pm and register their pet at the central arena.

tained and included parents’ views. The provider was passionate


about giving children the best start. The children gained independ-


ence by choosing their own toys and joining in activities at snack time. This could be extended fur- ther by allowing the children to be more involved in lunchtime prepa- ration.
