Meet new PCSO
MEGAN Day introduced herself as the new PCSO for Thurnham. The 22-year-old told parish councillors she was looking for- ward to keeping regular contact with the parish council, knows the area well, and lives in Maid- stone. A former pupil of Cornwallis School, Megan took over the role from Tim Gurr in January, and also provides police cover for Detling and Boxley.
gether with representatives from councils at Stockbury and Detling, have been working on a report de- signed to encourage greater com- munity use and a platform for Thurnham Castle.
It follows talks between the county council and Green Acres Woodland Burials about creating a natural bur- ial site there. Thurnham parish councillor John
Horne said the parishes were preparing some exciting alternative uses for the park and hewas looking forward to presenting the interim re- port and the opportunity for discus- sion, but felt the issue of the park’s poor access needed to be on the agenda.
Homes plan ‘beggars belief’ “Whether these residents will be
WARD borough councillor Nick de Wiggondene gave an update on Maidstone Council’s approval of 50 homes on Lilk Meadow, saying it “beggars belief”. Given the area’s flood risk and the
lack of school places, he accused the borough council of not having thought through its decision. He said: “KCC thinks any over-
spill of children will go to Langley Park, but this will be an academy with its own admissions policy.” Cllr deWiggondene also reported
that the cost of draining the site and maintaining the access bridge would fall to residents of the new Roundwell Park estate, 40% of which will be affordable housing.
able to meet these financial liabilities does not seem to have been thought through. There is no explanation for the stupidity of some people.” Parish councillor John Horne
asked if planning officers had said the plan must succeed because of the lack of a local plan by Maidstone Council, which the borough council- lor confirmed. Cllr Horne responded: “This is deeply contentious. It is appalling that officers are pulling that line.” Cllr deWiggondene said he hoped
a change to the committee structure would bring aboutwelcome change to the decision-making process after the elections.
GreenAcresMDAndyPaling told
the Downs Mail the company was still interested in creating a burial site at the park, but the county coun- cil had informed the group itwas re- viewing its country parks strategy. Headded:“We await the outcome
of these discussions, but given the very limited number of sites capable of meeting regulatory requirements in Kent, we would be keen to move forward if a decision was made to give us a lease.”
