Pair jailed for tampering with bank cash machines

TWO fraudsters have been jailed after stealing money by tampering with a cash machine in Bearsted. Ionut Tataru and Ciprian Dobos,

both 25, fixed devices to the cash machine outside the NatWest Bank in Ashford Road to steal personal information and trap users’ cash cards, which they would then later retrieve and use. On one occasion they stole a card

that a woman had inserted to ob- tain a statement. After she had entered her Pin, the machine retained the card and dis- played a fault. The following day the victim contacted her bank and was told that more than £2,000 had been stolen through a number of fraud-

and Dobos repeatedly stole account details and cards in order to de- fraud people out of several thou- sands of pounds. Neither of these men worked and instead funded a comfortable lifestyle at the expense of considerable stress to their vic- tims.”

Holiday let plan submied

A FIRE-DAMAGED mobile home could be replaced with a new hol- iday let in Minnels Farm, Hogbarn Lane, Harrietsham. Aplanning application, which will be decided by Maidstone Coun-

cil, says the single-storey building was previously used as ancillary accommodation to the main house. It proposes that the holiday let would be occupied for no more than 10 months per year.

Homes agreed INDUSTRIALbuildings are to be re- placed with six homes in Bull Hill, Lenham Heath, Planning permission was granted

for the demolition of structures at Westmount Packaging, The Forstal. Three of the new houses will have

five bedrooms, and the others will have four bedrooms. Lenham Parish Council objected

due to its location outside the village envelope, and neighbours had con- cerns about loss of privacy. But Maidstone Council's planning department said the scheme should go ahead as it reused brownfield land, and the planning committee was unanimous in approval.

Trees to stay

A PLAN to fell 13 protected oak trees in Ulcombe has been refused. Maidstone Council felt there was insufficient reason to allow the felling at Little Jubilee Farm in Stick- fast Lane. The parish council had objected,

saying itwas “outraged that this an- cient oak woodland has been mis- managed thus far”. Its response continued: “Approximately 70% of all trees have been wrongly removed by the applicant's contractor, result- ing in huge open swathes of space. Maidstone Council should insist on the replanting of the open areas with oak trees.”
