FROM THE CHAIRPERSON/PRESIDENT
As the newly elected CALEA Chairperson/President, I am humbled to follow in the footsteps of such great leaders as our immediate Past President Grayson Robinson. As we look back on the year 2014, we acknowledge the tremendous impact of President Robinson resulting in such wonderful outcomes.
W
e began 2015 with extraordinary fiscal health, the highest level of agency participation, and introducing several enhancements to the accreditation process that will hold down the costs while providing even better assessment capabilities. Many of these new initiatives and ideas are generated by our client agencies, who take the time to provide feedback on what works and what can work better. All of our ideas are carefully vetted by Executive Director W. Craig Hartley, Jr., his staff, and then presented to the Commission so that we can modify or adopt improvements that keep making the CALEA processes more relevant and highly valuable to all participating agencies.
The Commission is a dynamic body; each year, we sadly bid farewell to some commissioners, and we happily welcome new ones. The one constant is the dedication that each Commissioner holds for the CALEA principles and standards, and their commitment to the accreditation process. I will attest to the unique character of this Commission, the strong sense of integrity held by all its members, and the passion we all share to constantly improve this profession. It truly is an honor to serve among them, and to serve our client agencies. We will continue to work tirelessly to earn our motto, “The Gold Standard in Public Safety.”

MISSION
Since its founding in 1979, CALEA’s overall mission has been to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily through voluntary public safety agency accreditation programs, organized and maintained in the pub- lic interest. Once implemented, these programs function as a management model by offering an agency’s Chief Executive Officer, on a continuing basis, a blueprint that promotes the efficient use of resources, improves service delivery, and strengthens existing procedures; all while creating a solid foundation for the agency’s future.
