AS TROLOGY

April Stargazer by Stella Woods

Welcome to the Hotel California So many of you wrote to me saying how much you’d enjoyed last year’s Stargazer articles on Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones ‘On Fire’ tour, I decided to take an astrological look at another rock supergroup who have been touring our shores over recent weeks, The Eagles. As any self-respecting astrology fan will know, the eagle is one of the symbols for water sign Scorpio; so it came as no surprise that lead singer/songwriter Glenn Frey (6/11/48), guitarist Joe Walsh (20/11/47) and bass player Timothy B. Schmit (30/10/47) are all, yes, you guessed it, Scorpios. The Eagles are famous for their beautiful

vocal harmonies and classic lyrics on love, drugs and life in the fast lane in California in the mythical seventies. Riding through the desert at night; drinking tequila; romancing witchy women; dealing with broken hearts and lying eyes – their songs tug at the heart strings, and when you look at their astrological profile, it’s no wonder! Incredibly, every single member of The Eagles is a water sign. Drummer and lead

singer Don Henley is an emotional Cancer (22/7/47), as is former guitarist Bernie Leadon (19/7/47), while former bass player Randy Meisner (8/3/46) was born under sensitive water sign Pisces. On their recent tour, ‘History of the Eagles’, Leadon and Meisner were both invited to join their old band mates. Leadon accepted, but Meisner declined for health reasons. But what of the elephant in the room, or rather not in the room – former Eagles guitarist Don Felder (21/9/47), a brilliant musician and creator of the iconic intro to the international smash hit Hotel California? Why was Felder not invited along on the 2015 tour? While Felder’s skills on the guitar are

second to none, being a Virgo with moon in Sagittarius and three planets in Libra, he simply does not fit in with the band’s water sign signature. When The Eagles re-formed in the nineties after a decade- long break, founder members and crack songwriting team, Glenn Frey (Scorpio) and Don Henley (Cancer), argued that they had put the band together and written most of their hit songs and therefore deserved to be paid more than the others.

Walsh (Scorpio) and Schmit (Scorpio) agreed, but Felder was resentful. He protested (no doubt with Virgo precision and a Libran/Sagittarian sense of fairness) that everyone should be paid the same, as had originally been the case during the early years of the band’s success in the seventies. Tensions simmered beneath the

surface and eventually, in 2001, Felder was fired from the band. He sued them for wrongful termination and breach of contract and, six years of legal wrangling later, the matter was settled out of court, but it wouldn’t have mattered if Felder were right or wrong. He was up against a group of people who made decisions based on how they felt, and water signs (especially Scorpio), never forget a slight, let alone six years of legal action. Water is the most irrational of the four elements (fire, earth, air and water). If something doesn’t feel right, it’s not right, and no amount of arguing or discussion will make it otherwise. Here’s what Felder said in a recent

interview when asked about his relationship with the band: “I have reached
