Solent business leaders top awards shortlist

Four Hampshire business leaders are in the running for success at the IoD London and the South Director of the Year Awards

Run by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and open to members and non-members, the awards are sponsored by PwC and bring together company directors from a variety of backgrounds, recognising their qualities as business leaders.

The local finalists are:

Hugh Griffiths, chief executive of Inzpire of Farnborough, who is shortlisted in the Director of the Year (small company) category;

Mark Smith, group chairman and founder of the Car Finance Company of Portsmouth, who features in the Director of the Year (medium company) shortlist;

Karl Bygrave, from Poole, a director of Lush, who is shortlisted in both the Director of the Year (large company) and International Director of the Year categories;

Gareth Rogers, chief executive officer, St Mary’s Football Group (Southampton Football Club Group), who is a finalist in the Director of the Year (large company) category.

“By being shortlisted for these awards, our finalists have already proved that they are among the most successful business people in the region,“ said Rodger Broad, chairman of the IoD South.

“But that’s just the first step. Once announced, our winners will go forward to the national IoD awards later in the year where they will compete with directors from around the country for the title of UK Director of the Year.“

The finalists will find out if they have been successful in the regional awards at a gala dinner on Wednesday, April 22, in the prestigious surroundings of the Nash Room at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London, featuring guest speaker, journalist and broadcaster Jeremy Vine.
