View spawning sockeye in the fall as well as black bears.


22 Little Qualicum Falls


         use area with 7 km of trails around the Qualicum River Falls. 2 day-use areas on Cameron Lake (Cameron Lake and Beaufort picnic sites), which  Highway just minutes from MacMillan Park (Cathedral Grove). Cameron Lake and Beaufort are both accessed off Highway 4 enroute to         perfect base camp to explore the awe-inspiring Cathedral Grove of MacMillan Park. Afterwards, return to Little Qualicum Falls to camp, hike, and relax. Campground closed October through April.

        7 km south of Nanaimo. Access to the park is  park contains the only remaining coal tipple on Vancouver Island. The parking lot for Morden Colliery is also used as the trailhead for the regional district.

28 Rathtrevor Beach


        sites, 2 picnic shelters, tent only sites, 17 walk-in tent only sites, a Nature House, gift shop and concession. Other amenities include 4 shower buildings, 2 flush bathrooms in the        3 km south of Parksville on Highway 19A. Take Exit 51 off Highway 19 and follow signs to the         destinations on Vancouver Island, reservations are recommended. Over 2 km of sandy beach and 5.5 km of hiking trails within the park. There are many day trips accessible from Rathtrevor, and it is only 30 minutes from the Nanaimo Ferry Terminal. Camping is available year round.


29 Roberts Memorial


        15 km south of Nanaimo on central Vancouver Island. Take the Cedar Road Exit off Highway 1. Turn on Yellow-point Road and follow signs to  sandstone ledges and a shell midden on the beach, an example of how First Nations people harvested intertidal food.
