STEVEN M. HANSON LORAINE HAMILTON


SEARSPORT — Loraine Sharon (Hall) Hamilton, 66, of Searsport, passed away peacefully at her home Jan. 8, 2015. Loraine was born Feb. 26, 1948, in


Belfast to Clifford M. Hall and Velma M. (Grey) Hall.


Loraine graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1966. During high school Loraine worked summers at Jordan’s Dairy Bar in Searsport where she met the love of her life, Wayne. After high school she worked at Merrill Trust Bank in Belfast as assistant branch manager until she came on board as Vice President and chief cook and bottle washer at Hamilton Marine. From 1973-1983 Loraine also partnered with Wayne and helped with wedding photogra- phy and also made stunning wedding cakes. She belonged to 4-H, Girl Scouts USA, Eastern Maine Camera Club, Searsport Bucksport Propeller Club and US Power Squadron. She was a lifetime member of Penobscot Marine Museum and Searsport Historical Society. She was a member of Searsport First Congregational Church, serving as a trustee 2012-2014. Her hobbies included sewing and rug braiding, she loved cooking and sports and was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Maine Black Bear hockey. She enjoyed family time playing dominoes and Sequence. She loved all the holidays, especially Christmas with family and friends.


Loraine is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Wayne Hamilton, brothers Duane Hall, Denis and his wife Deborah Hall, sister-in-law Jacqueline Knowles, nieces Jessica Hall, Kristen and her husband Ron Alexander, Megan Hall, nephews Richard Knowles, David and his wife Roxanne Knowles, Derek Hall, Scott Hall and Bryant Hall, great-nieces and nephews Alex Hoop- er, Adam, Renee, Stephen, Kira and Kevin Knowles, Harrison and Jackson Alexander. She is predeceased by her parents, her mother and father-in-law Ethlyn and Warner Hamilton and brother-in-law Jim Knowles. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m.,


Steven Michael (Mike) Hanson, 59, of Long Island, died as a result of a tragic accident at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014. Married for 35 years to his wife, Ena, who survives him, he is also survived by what he deemed his fi nest accomplishment, his son, Caleb. Mike was born in Portland, on Aug. 4, 1955 and grew up in the greater Portland area. He graduated from Portland High School in 1974 and enjoyed playing football for the Portland Bulldogs as #81. Mike was involved in the commercial fi shing industry for most of his adult life, which eventually led him and his family to Long Island and its fi shing community. Mike loved Long Island and its residents. He never missed an opportunity to give visiting guests a tour of the island. Mike also loved to play horseshoes and his other interests included the many Long Island buoy toss competitions (planned or unplanned, day or night), hunting, and cooking his award winning chowder and famous fried fi sh. Mike believed every day you are alive is a special occasion. Being with Mike was always enjoyable and often an opportunity for adventure. Mike took his fashion cues from no one. However, his sometimes rough exterior was surpassed by his heart’s extraordinary capacity to show generosity, kindness and interest in helping others, es- pecially those less fortunate. Mike took great pride in helping to raise thousands of dollars for the kids in the Adirondack Mountains, New York, to buy coats and boots for their harsh winters. Mike will be remembered for being an exceptionally strong and hard worker for the benefi t of his family as well as his steadfast commitment to the principles of loyalty, honesty and fairness. Mike is also survived by his mother, Barbara Hanson , of South Portland, his father, Donald Hanson, and his wife, Beverly, of Dunedin, Fla.; his mother-in-law , Iris Carr, of Cape Elizabeth; his sister, Wanda Hanson , of South Portland, his sister, Debbie Carr, and her husband, Andrew, of Cape Elizabeth, his brother, Chris Hanson, and his wife, Rhonda, of Old Orchard Beach, and many nieces, nephews and several special people that considered him their ‘Uncle Mike’, as well as count- less close friends whom he held dear to


his heart. A celebration of life was held on Sunday, November 30, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. JOHN A. GRILL, SR.


BATH- On Friday December 5, John A. Grill, Sr., 85 of Bath, went to be with his late second wife Doris Nuesse, his sister Elizabeth, his son Michael and his immi- grant parents John and Mary Mahkota Grill of Slovenia. John was born on June 30, 1929 and raised in Manhattan, NY (he was fond of mentioning ‘across the street from Katz’ Deli’).


Educated in Manhattan Schools he was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of ‘47. At Manhattan College, Class of ’51, he served as class treasurer and received his degree in electrical engineering. He went on to pursue his graduate studies at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. John’s working career began in New


York with Arma Inc. assigned to the An- ti-submarine warfare division. In 1952,


while he was contracting to Bath Iron Works he met his fi rst wife Sandra Johnson of Bath, with whom he had four children. In 1968, the family moved from New York to Bath where John was a participant in the DX Project with BIW. Following that he went to work for Cianbro on Maine Yankee. John held many honorable positions during his employment and was most proud of his accomplishments while president and a founding partner of Rent-All of Bath as well as: Western Auto, Bath Cycle and later Bath Industrial Sales. In 1974 the family built one of the fi rst Shelter Institute homes in Woolwich. The property remained his home until two years ago when he suffered the loss of his second wife Doris, whom he married in 1995. The Plant Home was his current residence. John is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband John Deterling of West Bath, and his sons: Christopher and his wife Maria of Arrowsic and John A., Jr. (Tony) and his wife Mary of Bath; six grandchil- dren: Daniel Shiells, Erin Crosman, Olivia Deterling, Haley, Michael and Sarah Grill; one great-grandchild: Hudson Crosman, one sister, Mimi Mejac of Potomac, MD and many nieces and nephews.


There was a celebration of his life on Saturday December 20, 2014 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1100 Washington Street, Bath. A gathering of family and friends fol- lowed at the church fellowship hall. The family wishes to thank the Plant Home and Midcoast Hospital for their ex- cellent care, support and friendship of John these past two years.
