The new Flowers 43 fi nished out as a sportfi sh boat. Handy Boat in Falmouth has been busy this off season.


In the shop they have a Sabre 34 in for repairs after a grounding. She suffered major damage around her keel. They have redone the fl oors, sole and mast step area. There are two more Sabres coming in for the same repair. Just fi nished was an Island Packet 40. She had all her bright work refi nished and then they did her annual maintenance. A Sabreline 36 was in to have all her bright work redone; redo her sanitation sys- tem, overhaul her engine and some systems work.

in for some joiner work and have a cabin heater installed. An Alerion 33 is in for brightwork, systems and annual maintenance. An Olhsen 38 is in the rigging work, which includes adding an inner fore stay. They also will inspect systems as this boat is being prepared for a transatlantic crossing. Handy’s is also adding two more fl oats which increases dock space for transients and members. They have also upgraded all the shore power. There is space available if you are interested.

A new boat shop opened in Harpswell last fall, called Wild Duck Boat Works. They are offering refi t work and storage, even for the do-it yourselfer. Presently in the shop they have a Wilbur 34 hardtop express cruiser in for electrical and engine work. While this is being done all her bright work will be refi nished. Also in the shop they have a Tartan 33 which will have interior and hull work done. They also will do engine work. An Albin 28 is coming in to have her engine replaced along with fuel tanks and


fi berglass work. This one had suffered a grounding last summer and the fi berglass work is being done by Finestkind Boat Yard just down the road. An 18 foot Gilley/Wilbur yacht tender, which was built for an 85 foot yacht, is being refurbished. She has sat in storage for about 10 years so they have redone the tanks, fl oors, electrical system and cosmetics.


John’s Bay Boat Company in South Bristol is working on their newest boat, which is 46 foot x 15 foot 8 inches. They made a few pieces back in August, but really got going on her in September. Presently they are putting down her platform, which is 1½-inch Douglas fi r. Down below they are working on her accommodations, which will include an upper and lower V-berth, a settee and a basic galley. The galley will include a counter with a microwave oven. She is being fi nished as a split wheelhouse lobster boat, powered with a C-18 800-hp Caterpillar diesel, for a fi sherman from Spruce Head. She will be launched this spring.

150 hp Yamaha outboard, is fi nished and ready to be delivered to her customer from Blue Hill. She is fi nished off with a teak deck and a head under the starboard side berth. A Padebco 25 open roadster has been sold to a customer on the Sheepscot. They are taking a little longer with this one be- cause they are pulling off a deck mould. The bulkhead has been moved back 12 inches and the sheer at the bow increase six inches. They also raised the windshield and house six inches to give more head room down below. However they also wanted to keep her profi le looking the same. This mould will allow them to lay up the deck in much less time and lower the price so the boat is more affordable. Some of the interior has already been fi nished. In the cockpit she has a curved transom seat and a curved seat forward of the wet bar. She will be powered with twin 150 Yamaha outboards.


Next to the 25 footer they are also fi nish- ing up another 23½ foot runabout and have on order a 26 foot center console runabout.


Buxton Boats in Sunset, just moved out a wooden 36-foot Bunker & Ellis lobster boat, built in 1976. She received a new sheer- strake, two pieces of her coveringboards, guards, toe and spray rails, one coaming on the working side, a corner post on the trunk cabin and some exhaust work. She was in for about a month.


As soon as the Bunker & Ellis went out of the shop a 28 foot sailboat, FROLIC, was brought in for new decks. She had been at
