Niraj Yoga Embraces the Blending of Spiritual and Physical Practices in New Studio in Portland

J

ust in time for the New Year, Kathleen Savoy and Melissa Fox have opened Niraj Yoga focusing on the blending of spiritual and physi-

cal practices of Vinyasa yoga at 648 Congress Street in Portland. This new studio offers yoga students the opportunity for a full spectrum experience, strengthening the body and soul from inside out. Combining the physical aspects of poses with spiritual themes linked with the ancient Hindu aspects of yoga such as chanting, harmonium, and fi nding balance throughout life, Niraj Yoga ad- dresses the needs of those looking for more than just exercise from their yoga workout. Savoy and Fox are both certifi ed yoga instruc- tors with over 500 hours of Vinyasa and Hatha yoga training. “We are so excited to open Niraj Yoga and offer our students a truly holistic spiritual and physical experience,” notes Savoy. “We welcome yoga students of all abilities and all spiritual backgrounds. We plan to open the hearts and minds of everyone who comes through our doors and have them leave with a new understand- ing of themselves and a renewed focus on their lives and worlds around them.”

Niraj Yoga offers classes Monday-Saturday with times starting as early as 7:00am and as late as 5:30pm. Classes are offered in a variety of levels and styles. All classes are $9. For more information, go to http://nirajyoga.com/descriptions.html or call 207.747.9172.

The Clean Bedroom Revolutionizes Resolutions

our revolutionary resolutions. “For most of us, these annual promises tend to revolve around

T

health, and whether you want to lose weight or boost energy, improv- ing your sleep can be the golden ticket. Our suggestions for New Year’s Resolutions aren’t typical, but they’re an easy way to improve your health—and the best part is that you’ll keep these resolutions while you’re fast asleep!”

The Clean Bedroom’s 5 Easy-to-Keep New Year’s Resolutions for Your Bedroom:

1. Pretend You’re Goldilocks: “You need to sleep on an organic mat- tress that’s just right for you,” says Chamberlin. “It could be fi rm or soft, latex or wool, innerspring or rubber—whatever your choice, you’ll inherently sleep better on an organic mattress, without the intimate exposure to toxic chemicals.”

2. Perfect Your Pillow Talk: “A pillow works in tandem with the mattress and, together, they provide the foundation for restful and restorative sleep,” says Chamberlin. “For superior support and protection from allergens and toxins, choose an all-natural option like wool or natural rubber.”

3. Sleep Au Naturel: “We’re not encouraging you to sleep in your birth- day suit, but we are suggesting you sleep on organic bedding,” says Chamberlin. “Unlike man-made fabrics that are processed with toxic chemicals, all-natural alternatives are softer, gentler, and much more comfortable. In addition, elements like an organic blanket or pure wool comforter provides warmth without overheating.”

All About Lyme Disease

earn what Lyme disease is, how to prevent it, recognize the symp- toms, coinfections, some of the controversies and asking your doctor to do a proper workup. This talk will be entertaining and informative, with plenty of chances to ask questions. Dr. McCloy’s approach is to get to the root cause of your medical condition and fi x them using natu- ral methods, rather than simply covering up the symptoms with drugs which ultimately causes more symptoms. This event will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd, 6-7pm at Old Orchard Beach High School. Sean McCloy, MD, MPH, MA, is Medical Director/founder of

L

Integrative Health Center of Maine and specializes in Lyme-literate treatment. He received his MD from NYMC, is dual board-certifi ed Diplomate in both Family Medicine & Holistic Medicine.

4. Just Breathe: “The EPA and National Lung Association recommend regularly opening windows to recycle the air, and using a window guard to block out pollen, dust, and dirt particles,” says Chamberlin. “In addition, run an air purifi er that uses HEPA fi ltration—this elimi- nates 99.97% of all particles three microns in size or larger, and makes a difference that’s immediately noticeable.”

5. Don’t Make Your Bed Every Day: “This is my absolute favorite resolution,” says Chamberlin. “By not making your bed every day, you allow the bedding and mattress to air out and breathe, providing you with an even healthier sleep environment. Just don’t tell Mom!”
