News from the MUSEUM Uncover the stories behind the museum!

If you’ve ever been to Maidstone Museum, you’ll know it’s an eclectic set of styles – from medieval to modern, with some still standing from the 1490s! Come along to a History Tour of the Museum on the first Tuesday of each month and learn more about the families who built and lived in the Manor of Chillington! £5 or £3.50 for concessions.

Ralph Steadman: a retrospective

Our popular Ralph Steadman exhibition runs until Saturday 28 February- a rare

opportunity to explore the full range of the artist's work, including his earliest published cartoon from 1956, material from Private Eye, Punch and Rolling Stone, as well as his illustrated books including Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and Animal Farm.

Museum lates

Join us in our café and licensed bar on the last Thursday of every month when the museum stays open late for special events. On 26 February, local historian Robin

Ambrose will give an illustrated talk on ‘Memories of North Maidstone’, while 26 March is our ‘Historic Film and Photo’ Late. We’ll be screening archive footage from Screen Archive South East of Maidstone in the 1930s, and visitors will go behind the scenes with our Curator to see and hear about the photography and film objects in our collection. Visitors will also be able to create an image to take away with them.
