party. It was great hearing them reprise their version of the Motown classic, “Just My Imagination,” and for the first time on record, they rocked Eddie Cochran’s “Twenty Flight Rock” and Smokey Robinson’s “Going to a Go-Go.” Both to great effect. As the old DJ’s used to say, “and the hits just keep on com- ing,” with smoking renditions of “Let it Bleed,” “Time is On My Side,” “You Can’t Al- ways Get What You Want,” “Tumbling Dice” (one of my personal favorites), “Miss You,” “Brown Sugar,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Sat- isfaction,” and my all-time favorite Stones tune, “Jumpin Jack Flash.” And those are just part of the show. This is one of the most per- fect rock and roll concerts I have heard in ages. But am I surprised? Nope. These are the freakin’ Rolling Stones!.... Here’s one last re- view. The hottest of the new breed of South- ern Rock bands, Blackberry Smoke, will release their new studio album Holding All the Roses on February 10th on their new label, Rounder Records. Once again Charlie Starr and the guys stand and deliver. They continue to tap dance on

the edge, absolutely refusing to be placed in a musical box and stamped with any particular classification. I absolutely love the way they bring to mind Skynyrd one minute, Charlie Daniels’ fiddle the next, funk the next and Ted Nugent a second later - and that’s all in just the first song! (The title track). “Living in the Song,” for some reason reminded me of Cheap Trick up until the chorus, and then it morphed into something else - Blackberry Smoke perhaps? The melody, the whole song, has a 1970’s vibe that just sucks me in. The

12-song set produced by Grammy-winner Brendan O'Brien, whose previous production clients have included AC/DC, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, showcases the Atlanta-based quintet's emotion-charged mix of bluesy rock, gospel soul, and country, and once again I have to say, nobody does it better. Holding All the Roses is filled with the band's three-part vocal harmonies and elabo- rate arrangements, adding in fiddle here and there for additional flavor. It’s another win- ner for the guys. Get ready to buy it in Febru- ary, and prepare to be rocked! •

Special Thanks to Craig Stevens, who sup- plied the Dylan and CSNY boxed sets and the Marty Stuart record.
