Johnny Cash FAQ C. Eric Bannister (Backbeat Books)

Subtitled All That’s

Left to Know About the Man in Black, Johnny Cash FAQ is a virtual en- cyclopedia on the coun- try music legend. Filled with rare photos and fac-

toids spanning the full career of Cash, this book fills in the gaps between the various Cash biographies, actually offering up mate- rial I had never read before, and I have read about everything available on Johnny Cash. Beginning in 1956, Cash released an album

every year until his death in 2003. Quite an accomplishment, but that’s only the begin- ning. While many of the biographies on Johnny dwell on his substance abuse prob- lems in the past, this book chooses instead to celebrate the music of the Man in Black. There are notes on every album he released during his nearly 50-year career, as well as a run down of all of his musical collaborations, including those with his wife, June Carter Cash. Johnny Cash FAQ is a welcome addition to

any musical library, and especially to those of us with a vast interest in popular music his- tory.

Smith begins Rebel Yell aptly with an insight of Charlie Daniels', that

the brotherhood between Southern musicians is the unifying force behind the genre "South-

teleone's Carousel Bar, Allen has established quite a reputation for mixing the perfect cock- tail. Now we can all enjoy some of his best mixed drinks. This book is loaded with his fa- vorites and even an recipe for eggnog from his grandmother. Magic in a Shaker is a must-read for anyone from beginner to prac- ticed bartender. In this informative book, Allen creates themed libations for each month of the year. Allen is a United States Bartenders' Guild

certified spirits professional, and was named bartender of the year by New Orleans Maga- zine and a top bartender by City Business magazine. The book also features fine photography

from Ann Benoit, a New Orleans food photog- rapher and writer, which only helps to get the saliva flowing with anticipation of a “Scarlett O’Hara,” a “Mint Julep, a “Bahama Mama.” Or how about a Holiday cocktail, like maybe the author’s own creation, a “Peruvian Christ- mas” - you’ve got to love a drink made with Amaretto and cherries. Yum! Magic in a Shakermight not cure what ails

you, but one thing is for sure, there are at least a few recipes in here that will make you feel no pain and warm you on these cold win- ter’s nights to boot!
