AT the Remembrance Day serv- ice at thewarmemorial in Boxley village, parish council chairman Ivor Davies laid a wreath on be- half of the council and other res- idents. Therewas a good attendance on

what was a fine autumnmorning. The new plaque close to the war memorial commemorating the centenary of the start of World War One, which was commis- sioned by the parish council, was greatly admired. Itwas thought to be a fitting reminder that the loss of so many parishioners would not be forgotten.

Nuisance bikes FURTHER problems have been re- ported regarding illegal motorbikes in BoxleyWarren. Two were stopped by the police.

The bikers, who seem aware that they are breaking the law, are be- coming increasingly belligerent and a recent incident has been re- ported to the police. There had also been a problem

with quad bikes in theWalderslade woodlands. Stepswere being taken by the parish council and the Walderslade Woodlands Group, to ensure that the access point is blocked.

Gateway request

ARESIDENT’S request for “village gates”, similar to those at the south- ern entrance to Boxley village, to define the entrance to Sandling on Old Chatham Road, has been re- ferred to the parish council’s envi- ronment committee for further consideration. The resident also asked that street name signs at Ty- land and Old Chatham Road should be refurbished. This request would be forwarded to Maidstone Council.

Next meeting

THE next meeting of Boxley Parish Council will be at St John’s School, Provender Way, Grove Green, at 7.30pm on Monday, December 1. Members of the public are very welcome to attend.

It was intended to plant two

trees, an oak and a linden (lime), symbolising Britain and Germany respectively, in Grove Green and erect a similar plaque in 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of hostilities.

Concern over KIMS car park Grit bin request

THE parish council expressed con- cern about the potential impact on local traffic of a proposed staff car park at the Kent Institute of Medi- cine and Surgery (KIMS) site off Bearsted Road. Comments from the council in- cluded: “The original application for the development clearly stated that it would not require extensive staff parking due to its green travel

plan. The vehicular movement cal- culations in that application did not include the users of these extra 141 parking spaces.” While councillors did not have materially acceptable concerns to object to the planning application, they noted that if granted, this would lead to yet further pressure on an already-stressed highway in- frastructure.

Thanks for your help in parish AS the end of the year nears, the parish council wishes to thank all the vol- unteers of the three environmental groups caring for Vinters Valley, the WaldersladeWoodlands and BoxleyWarren. Thanks also go to the three village halls management committees in

Weavering, Sandling and Grove Green; the numerous residents, many of whomremain unrecognised, who are school governors, litter pickers, neigh- bourhood watch or residents association organisers; and all those people who just help neighbours or are in community groups. Your contribution to the wellbeing of the parish and its communities is

greatly appreciated. We are all working together for a better Boxley, and long may it continue.

Road blackspot FOR the third time in about 18 months, the entrance gates to Box- ley Warren at the Lidsing Road/PilgrimsWay junction have been destroyed by a car accident. Fortunately, nobody was seri-

ously injured. The parish council has notified KCC that it considers the site an accident blackspot. It has requested an investigation into road conditions at this point.

Bus changes A RECENT change to the 130 bus timetable meant that children trav- elling to Boxley village and beyond had towait an additional hour. After representations the new change, likely to start in December, will mean the 130 service will be extended to Maidstone BoysGram- mar School for a 3.37pm departure (at the school gates) before leaving the town centre at 3.44pm.

WITH winter approaching, resi- dents are reminded that the con- tents of salt/grit bins are for roads and public footpaths and not pri- vate drives or garden paths. Salt bins are placed where there

are safety issues. An empty bin could mean a skid or fall.
