Megan’s fund to help others

FAMILY and friends have set up a fund in memory of a popular Ley- bourne teenager whose death stunned the community. Megan Fox lost her battle with an aggressive brain tumour called glioblastoma inMarch, just amonth after her 17th birthday. She had been diagnosed with the illness in October last year. A charity called Megan’s Wish

List has now been launched to keep her memory alive and help families with children suffering life-chang- ing conditions or disabilities in the Tonbridge and Malling area. It aims to provide financial assistance, sup- port, education and advice. More than £5,000 has been raised

with a sell-out charity ball at the Hadlow Manor Hotel. Organised by Rebecca Andrews and Freya Gorham the dance, which included an auction and raffle, was a huge success. Thiswas the second big fundrais-

ing event since the charity began in May. The firstwas a 15-hour music and family entertainment festival called Meg Fest, which was held at Harrietsham inAugust. Now thoughts are turning to her

18th birthday celebration on Febru- ary 20, 2015, when there will be an event in aid of her charity at The George pub, Trottiscliffe with amix of livemusic and DJs. Nicknamed “Our Meggie Moo”

by those close to her, Megan grew up in Addington and Leybourne, and attended Offham Primary School before going on to Wrotham Secondary School. She had started a health and social

care course at Mid Kent College, Maidstone in September last year andwas due to start an apprentice- ship at a doctors’ surgery in West Malling High Street when she be- came ill. She underwent months of treat-

ment before losing her battle at King’s College Hospital in London. Megan’s parents Chris and Lucy

have thanked everyone for their support and for the inspirational messages and photographs on the Facebook page dedicated to her. Her dad said Megan, who was hoping to become a midwife, al- ways put others before herself and had even helped other sick people from her hospital bed, using social networking sites. The family would like to hear

from individuals, groups or busi- nesses who could help with dona- tions, sponsorship or fundraising for the wishlist. For details go to www.meganswishlist.com.

Traffic fears over homes plan

AN outline planning application has been submitted for 20 houses in Hollingbourne, hot on the heels of 14 being approved opposite Godfrey House. Villagers say the outline applica-

tion for "high quality" houses be- tween Godfrey House and Claygate comes in spite of opposi- tion to the most recent application, which was agreed by Maidstone Council in October. The parish council and residents have already warned the borough

council about a lack of places at the village school, the likely effect on traffic in the narrow Eyhorne Street and the existing issues with drainage. It is believed that these problems will also apply to the outline proposal for more houses on the land owned by Mr Ebrehart. Early details from agent DHA propose larger plots and a lower density to the north and north east of the site to “stagger development towards Godfrey House and God- frey Meadow”.

‘Dangerous’ sycamore preserved

MAIDSTONE Council has served a tree preservation order on a sycamore tree in Detling thatwas threatened with removal. The owner of Tithe Barn, in The Street, sought conservation area consent to ground the tree because it was causing a “danger” and was overhanging church grounds, but the council said the sycamore was of a high quality and free of defects.
