About LAPADA
ABOUT LAPADA
T
he golden chandelier symbol displayed in a shop window or at a fair is the sign of member- ship of LAPADA The Association of Art & An-
tiques Dealers. Since it was formed in 1974, LAPADA has grown to become the largest association of pro- fessional art and antiques dealers in the country. Be- tween them members cover virtually every discipline, from antiquities to contemporary fine art. Member- ship is only open to those who meet the Association’s high standards regarding experience, quality of stock and knowledge of their subject. LAPADA was the first association of its kind to in- troduce a Code of Practice by which all its members must abide. The purpose of the Code is to maintain the highest standards of professional dealing and to ensure, among other things, that all items for sale are clearly priced and correctly described, thus giv- ing buyers confidence and reassurance when they buy from a LAPADA member. In the unlikely event of a dispute with a LAPADA member, a complaint in writing will ensure a fair and thorough investigation through the Association’s free Conciliation Service. A recent addition to the LAPADA family is LAPADA MODERN, which represents a growing number of our members, all established dealers in contemporary and modern art and 20th century design. Find out more at
www.lapadamodern.org. LAPADA provides a number of services to the pub- lic including our Wedding Present Service, LAPADA Gift Vouchers and Certificates of Age for export pur- poses. LAPADA’s list of Approved Service Providers can assist in the search for specialist shippers, restor- ers and other art and antiques related businesses. More information about LAPADA and its services can be obtained by contacting the head office. The following Directory provides full information
on members, what they offer and where they are lo- cated. These listings, together with items for sale and other useful information can also be found on the As- sociation’s website
www.lapada.org. LAPADA has in- troduced several iPhone Apps, for LAPADA, LAPADA MODERN, and the LAPADA Fair, making contact with our members easier than ever. An entertaining LAPADA quiz app is also available. LAPADA is a member of CINOA (Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d’Art), the international federation of 32 art and antiques dealers’ associations. Member associations cover 22 countries representing some 5,000 affiliated dealers, all shar- ing the principles of quality and integrity founded on a depth of specialist knowledge. If you buy from or sell to a CINOA affiliated dealer you can be confident that the dealer subscribes to strict guidelines on the ethics of dealing and belongs to a recognised and respected na- tional association that vets its members. You can find all CINOA members on the website
www.cinoa.org which also includes, as on the LAPADA website, a wide variety of individual art works and antiques for sale.
