Sarah will undoubtedly see the launch of a top-class fair as her major achievement but there have been many other triumphs, opening up new avenues for membership with LAPADA Modern and establishing annual conferences in attractive venues. Not the least of her successes was in gaining official approval for a brown road sign with a candlestick motif to promote antiques as a visitor attraction after all previous appli- cations had been rejected out of hand. Rebecca Davies inherits an organisation in rude health. Like her predecessors she will undoubtedly grapple with the everyday problems of maintaining membership and settling disputes, but she will also face new challenges. What they will be we cannot say, but after 40 years LAPADA has proved that it has the resilience to come out on top.


A History of LAPADA


AboveWith previous experience at Phillips and Sotheby’s auctioneers and as a TV film producer, Sarah Percy-Davis proved a dynamic CEO for LAPADA. Joining in 2004, she quickly won friends throughout the trade and rationalised the association’s fairs policy. Her determination to create a top-class showcase for members culminated in the annual art and antiques fair in Berkeley Square.


Above As LAPADA’s fifth chairman, Lord Chadlington has brought new vision and skills to the organisation. Founder of the public relations giant Shandwick and Chief Executive of Huntsworth plc, he is also a working Conservative peer and has given renewed emphasis to communication and presentation, hosting highly successful LAPADA conferences at the House of Lords.
