Above Van Cleef & Arpels vintage diamond dress ring. Set with one hundred and ninety six round brilliant cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined weight of 3.38 carats, bordered by two horizontal channel set graduated rows of rectangular baguette cut diamonds in open back rubover settings, twenty four in total with a combined weight of 1.40 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 4.78 carats, to a heavy bombe cluster with elegant curving rows, conforming to the finger with intricate pierced backholing and tapering at the shoulders to a solid D-shape shank. Tested 18 carat yellow gold, signed ‘VAN CLEEF & ARPELS’, numbered ‘NY58548’, circa 1950s.
