Doctors Notes Metabolic Syndrome and Homeopathy

“Homeopathy cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment.” ~ Gandhi

(animal, vegetable, mineral, and imponderable). So how does a homeopath find a remedy for a client with metabolic syndrome? The homeopath’s keen powers of observation and listening help

her to match the individuality of the client and their unique situa- tion to a homeopathic remedy. Homeopathic case taking is gener- ally a two-hour interactive interview, in which the client speaks to their deepest concerns, and in this way, the homeopath discerns the essence of the client. When matching the essence of the person to a homeopathic remedy for the whole person, an alchemy is set into motion in which the essence of the remedy resonates with imbalances in the client’s overall health, thus stimulating healing from the inside out. In the case of people with weight and digestive complaints, there often exist body-mind components and some- times-genetic predispositions. Homeopathic case taking addresses the origins of all of these issues, and the chosen remedy creates an environment where deep healing is facilitated. The strength of homeopathy as a system for deep healing is based not on what is wrong with the patient, (the illness or disease) but on whom the person is in total.

A case example is a 57-year-old woman in early menopause

with chronic metabolic syndrome and a long history of candida infection, anxiety and depression since menopause at age 55. In addition she had severe seasonal allergies, alopecia (hair falling out), pain in multiple joints, oral thrush, and eczema in skin folds. She had an insatiable appetite; delight in simple carbs and sugary foods were her mode of eating for a number of years. Gas, bloat- ing, severe constipation were part of her picture. The homeopathic remedy picture of Candida Albicans matched her symptoms and was prescribed, along with recommendation for a modified paleo diet, daily walking, and yoga for stress reduction. Homeopaths un- derstand that a remedy is acting when the deeper mental emotional level symptoms clear first and more superficial symptoms like skin issues clear last. At a four-week follow up she returned with marked

reduction in all except her skin symptoms. Her depression and anxiety had lifted, hair stopped falling out, and the bowel began to heal. At eight weeks she had lost ten pounds, she was excited to be exercising, thrush and GI symptoms were gone; her joint pain was much reduced. By twelve weeks the eczema was cleared, and her life had taken a new path with the restoration of her sense of wellbeing and continued weight reduction. A second case illustrates the body mind connection in meta- bolic syndrome: a successful male executive who experienced extreme gas, bloating, abdominal pain and weight gain after eating. These symptoms occurred during situations in which his compe- tence was challenged, whether at work leading a meeting, or while at home playing sports with his teenage children. He had unsuc- cessfully tried the litany of conventional and alternative health care therapies for his bloating, which caused him much embarrassment, in that his pants literally burst at the seams during these episodes. The back-story in his case was growing up in a home where the parental expectation was excellence at any cost; he was shunned if he did not perform to parental expectations. Additionally, he was belittled and bullied by an older brother favored by his parents, and lived in fear of isolation from his family group. This is the state in the homeopathic remedy Magnesium Phosphoricum, where anger is suppressed due to fear of loss of contact with people of vital importance. After this remedy, which acted deeply to restore this clients confidence and heal his lifelong fear of social isolation, his bloating and bursting at the seams resolved. In short, his deepest block to expressing his gifts as a person was healed, and he flour- ished. Find a homeopath in Maine through the Maine Association of Homeopaths at www.homeopathyinmaine.org
