News Pair racing to
F1 success A MAIDSTONE duo have taken the F1 Sidecar Champi- onship title at Brands Hatch. Matt MacLaurin from Lang-
ley and Adrian Hope from Downswood claimed the much sought-after title ofBMCRCF1 Sidecar Champions on a very wet circuit. The local pair have been rac-
ing together since they met Go Karting in 1992, and bought their first sidecar three years later. With Matt riding and Adrian
as passenger, they are one of the only teams to have stuck to- gether throughout their racing careers. Matt and Adrian progressed
from F2 sidecars to F1s, win- ning the East Midlands Racing Championships in 2010-2012. They secured some much needed sponsorship from Maidstone-based Fileder Filter Systems to be able to compete in the RKBF1 sponsored BMCRC F1 Championship.

Ethan missing school in delay over transport
ABEARSTED mother says her son is being failed by Kent’s education system. Clare Stanley, from Cross Keys,
says she has been relying on friends and family to get her son, Ethan (five), to classes after he failed to get a place at Thurnham Infant School – despite an appeal. After accepting a place at Leeds
and Broomfield School, Mrs Stanley says KCC has taken months to de- cide whether her son qualifies for transport to get him there. Since September Clare, who does
not drive, has managed to get him to school on only three days out of five. Her battle with the county council
began in 2013,whenshe failed to get Ethan into the reception class at the infant school. His brothersWarwick and Owen go to Roseacre School, which is next door, and Mrs Stanley walks there with them. For the fol- lowing year he remained at Three Bears Pre School in Bearsted. When shewas again looking for a
school for Ethan this summer, Thurnham said it could not accom-
delays sorting out his transport, even though the term started in Sep- tember. His frustration is now af- fecting his behaviour at home.” ”Scott Bagshaw, head of admis-
sions and transport at KCC, said: “We received the application for free school transport on September 9. This has been assessed and has found that Ethan is eligible for assis- tance with transport. “We are in the process of arrang-

modate him and she accepted a place at Leeds and Broomfield. But after weeks waiting to hear if
he was eligible for a taxi to get him there,KCChas now said Ethan may need towait until lateNovember for the cab to be organised by its trans- port integration department. Mrs Stanley said: “This waiting
has been crazy. Ethan is settling in at Leeds, which has a lovely school, but I have had to rely on friends to get him there while the county council
ing a vehicle for him to travel in as there isn’t any transport currently running that would be convenient for him to join.”
