OCTOBER

Hey, hey, girl! First off, I am so excited that The Rage Monthly invited me to be your go-to-gal for all the hot, fabulous and “raging” events in the gayborhood. San Diego’s Hillcrest has been my play- ground for quite some time (we’re kee- pin’ it vague so I don’t age myself) and I definitely feel up to the task of guiding you kids in “awesome’s” direction! by paris sukomi max

Aside from October

being gay Christmas due to Halloween, this month will also be hosting multiple anniversary celebra- tions for some of your local hotspots. Kicking

things off at the mecca of “all things party,” Rich’s 23 Year Anniversary celebrates all the good times, great music and blackouts (speaking from multiple experiences). On Saturday, October 4, dance the night away with DJ Nikno, DJ Taj and DJ K-Swift, with a complimentary champagne toast and a live performance by singer Dev, known best from her hit single “Bass Down Low.” With just a few days to recover, the gaybor-

hood’s “baby bar,” Uptown Tavern, throws us back in time for their “You’re So ‘80s” shindig, celebrating two years of awesome- ness on Wednesday, October 8 starting at 7 p.m. Note to self: Find leg warmers and snap bracelets stat. And, of course, never to be outshined, Lips San Diego will be having a week long glamour fest to celebrate 15 years of big hair, high heels and duct tape. From Tuesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 19, the girls of Lips, along with divas visiting from their other locations such as Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and New York, will be setting the stage on fire nightly for an unforgettable drag dining experience.

64 RAGE monthly 2014 Moving on from the anniversary celebra-

tions… Urban Mo’s on Thursday, October 16 through Saturday, October 18 will be host for the kickoff of Bear Quake, the three-day Bear event. I should probably dust off my curly blond wig cuz, what’s a bear party without a visit from Goldilocks? Hope- fully, I’ll find a papa bear to tuck me in, pun intended. BTW, a little birdie told me that the Mo’s patio is expanding, which means more room for Sunday Fundays! Last, but definitely never the least, Hal-

loween, honey! It lands on a Friday this year, giving all of you 9 to 5’s ample time to recover from your battle wounds. We already know that every bar and club will be having nu- merous parties throughout the week, so I’m gonna turn your attention to a local favorite; Nightmare on Normal Street, to be held on Saturday, October 25. An amazing dance stage and outrageous costume contest, all for an admission price of only $10. There’s definitely no better place to flaunt your fabulous costume. Proceeds benefit the San Diego LGBT Community Center, so, not only are you having a great time, you’re giving back to the community, as well. Along with having a blast this year, keep in mind to be safe and kind to one another. “Nothing ruins an outfit faster than a bad attitude.”

Thanks guys and I can’t wait to play with you all soon!
