OLD TOWN ARTS & CRAFT SHOW Historic Old Town is a great place to entertain your
AIDS WALK & RUN 2014 Back again in 2014 and 25 years young is the an-
nual AIDS Walk and Run, the largest one-day HIV/ AIDS fundraiser in San Diego County, with more than 8,000 participants donating to the cause. Established as AIDS Walk San Diego back in 1989, this event has raised more than $8 million dollars, with more than $500,000 being distributed to 14 community-based HIV/AIDS service organizations throughout the county. The event happens on Sat- urday, September 27 and features a 5K walk, 10K certified run and all-new for this year, a 5K Fun Run. Also new this year, the Walk/Run start and finish lines will be located in the heart of Hillcrest, with a special opening ceremony titled “Reasons To Remember” the evening of Friday, September 26. Other special AIDS Walk events will occur throughout Saturday and Sunday, September 27 through 28, honoring San Diego’s commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS. SAN DIEGO FILM FESTIVAL 12 Years a Slave, Silver Linings Playbook and
August: Osage County are just a few of the recent Academy Award-nominated movies that have played at the San Diego Film Festival (SDFF) before their mainstream debut and this year promises to be no exception. Now in its 13th year, the SDFF runs from Wednesday, September 24 through Sunday, September 28 and will feature more than 100 screenings of award-winning independent films, with filmmakers, actors, panels and parties. “The San Diego Film Festival is the region’s premier event for the best global and national independent films. For many, it is one of the first stops on the independent film festival circuit—consider it a sneak peek for any- one who loves to go to the movies!” said Chairman and CEO, Dale Strack. ADAMS AVENUE STREET FAIR This free music festival/street fair has been going
on for 32 years and for this, their 33rd, you can expect to be entertained by over 100 musical acts on eight stages. The event has no less than 350 arts and crafts booths, beer gardens and tastings, giant carnival rides and exotic foods, all lining Adams Avenue in the Normal Heights neighborhood. Stop by on Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28 for this fabulous festival featuring headliners like the Austin-based quartet Heartless Bastards, San Diego rockers, The Burning of Rome, R&B saxophonist Big Jay McNeely, Indiana’s The Kinsey Report and salsa band Charlie Chavez y su Afro Truko to name just a few. LGBT VETERANS BENEFITS SEMINAR AT THE CENTER For many LGBT veterans, the return home can
be challenging and years in the making. For those newly home and those long returned, wading through the labyrinth necessary to discover services and the many organizations there to
assist—is more than daunting—it can seem impossible. On Saturday, September 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Center, the County of San Diego Veterans Services Office, along with local LGBT military organizations, will offer a workshop pertaining to benefit(s) accessibility for those U.S. Armed Forces veterans who have served. It’s specifically designed to help veterans learn and understand the many services, benefits and programs available.
