Training & Development Apprentice Greenkeeper of the Year
The Greenkeeping Awards were sponsored by BIGGA and the winners were Richard Blackburn from Rochdale Golf Club for the Intermediate Category and Steven Thompson from Trentham Golf Club for the Advanced Category.
The academic year comes to an end but work goes on for the Apprenticeship and Work-based teams at the College.
All apprenticeship and workplace learning programmes are roll-on / roll-off and can be started at any time of the year. Funding is available to support new recruits or train and up skill existing employees as part of an all ages apprenticeship funded programme. If you are thinking about undertaking a degree, why not consider our online Foundation Degree in Sportsturf starting in September. There really has never been a better time to advance your knowledge, skills and career prospects within the turf industry.
If you are an employer looking to strengthen your team, don’t forget about Myerscough College’s apprenticeship recruitment service, you may also be eligible for a £1500 grant towards an apprentice’s employment costs.
Richard’s Work-based tutor, Tracey Woollam, said; ”Richard showed a great deal of enthusiasm throughout his Level 2 Diploma, producing both excellent practical and theory evidence, confirming his abilities and the importance in delivering high quality playing surfaces. The ease in which Richard can digest technical information should prove beneficial if he so chooses to progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Sportsturf in the future.”

His work throughout the Apprenticeship was of an exceptional standard and I am delighted that we are able to recognise this today. Also, a big thanks to the team at BIGGA for sponsoring the category.”
