Fast trains set to boost town

A NEW high speed rail link for Snodland has been welcomed by councillors as bringing great ben- efits to the town. The 45-minute service was con- firmed as Southeastern announced its new timetable for early 2015. Scheduled to start on January 11, Snodland will have three peak hour trains to London each morn- ing and three back in the evenings. Currently, commuters have to

drive to Strood orWest Malling sta- tions for a good link to the City. The service will be on the stan-

dard line to Ebbsfleet, stopping at Strood and Gravesend, before join- ing the fast track to St Pancras. It will make the daily commute

easier for residents moving into the Holborough Lakes development where a new community has been created and 500 more homes are in the pipeline. Southeastern said it was unable

to announce fare prices yet as ne- gotiations were still taking place with the Government, but it pledged that any premium would only apply to the part of the route

on the fast track. The new trains will run outward

from Snodland at 07.01, 07.31 and 08.01 and leave St Pancras at 17.16, 17.46 and 18.16. Cllr Anne Moloney, chairman of Snodland Town Council, said: “We are delighted that Southeastern is proposing to include Snodland in the high speed service. This will be a huge benefit for residents and will reduce road journeys. “We hope that the station car

park can be enlarged and under- stand that a bus service is being dis- cussed to improve overall connections. With so much new housing in the area this proposal is a very positive move.” There was more good news for commuters with the announcement that direct trains fromWest Malling to Blackfriars will also start in Jan- uary, although they are only sched- uled until 2018 while London Bridge is refurbished. Southeastern plans to run these services from West Malling at 06.12, 07.06 and 08.53, with return journeys from Blackfriars at 17.47 and 19.04.
