Plant City Is Sweet on Second Chance Boxer Rescue.

Second Chance Boxer Rescue hosted their first Boxer Carnival on February 22 in Plant City. It was a great event, with plenty of vendor participation and support from the animal community. The turnout was excellent, even though the skies were threatening to burst with rain all morning.

(Far left to right) One of the highlights was watching two-year-old Rena, a Pit Bull mix, catch Frisbees. Her athleticism is as remarkable as her backstory. She was scheduled to be euthanized at Hillsborough County Animal Services when a vet tech discovered the dog was about to have puppies. Adopted by Keith and Victoria Parker, they knew she was high energy. One day Keith threw Rena a disk. She immediately retrieved it and, after a little coaxing, brought it back for another throw.

Swiss represented Hillsborough County Animal Services. He is a four-year-old, seized by HCAS in an animal cru- elty case. Swiss was found chained to a house, presumably to guard the crack cocaine buried under it. Rocky, a six- month-old Boston Terrier, finds a new buddy to play with. Run For The Roses In Baldwin Park?

The 7th Annual Doggie Derby took place on March 8 in Orlando’s Baldwin Park. More than 30 vendors participat- ed. Dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes competed in the single-elimination, 25-yard race in four weight divisions. It was just as fun watching the owners’ techniques used to coax their dogs to the finish line, as it was watching the dogs run. Proceeds from the event benefited local students through Brightside Events’ Stock the Pantry Program. The program provides non-perishable foods over extended school breaks so children won’t have to go without.
