Making The Most Of Paradise In Key Largo.

Sarah Roach (left) and Samson share a paddle board during Paddlin’ and Pups, a periodic event on Florida Bay off Key Largo. It is hosted by MarrVelous Pet Rescue and Florida Bay Outfitters to help raise awareness about fostering and adoption. One lucky dog was adopted during the February event. The group is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that relies heavily on social media. The event received a good amount of publicity when Meteorologist Ginger Zee from Good Morning America aired portions of it on the March 7 edi- tion of GMA. “Yappy hours are fun. But getting out on the water is great,” said Kat Spiegel, Rescue Coordinator. MarrvelousPetRescues.org. Ginger Zee and Nash (shown right). Go Gainesville And St. Francis House Pet Care.

The Second Annual Paws & Pals Run was held on Saturday, April 5 at Jonesville Park in Gainesville. Sponsored by Oaks and Northwood Oaks Veterinary Hospitals and Dr. Kaplin-Stein, the event raised funds and awareness for St. Francis Pet Care. Originally located at St. Francis House, the shelter helps the homeless transition into perma- nent housing. Dr. Kaplin-Stein, Chris Machen and Natalie Isaza co-founded the Pet Care program that serves the healthcare needs of the pets of the homeless in conjunction with the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. There is no paid staff and students from UF volunteer for the program. Today, the St. Francis House Pet Care Clinic has its own facility at 501 SE 2nd Street in Gainesville, thanks to an outpouring of communi- ty support, and the tenacity of three very strong- willed, determined and caring human beings.
