KCC alternative strategy Despite whatwas shown in the strategy, Cllr Gary Cooke said there would be no road access to Church Road or Gore Court Road. New housing would be accessed via Woolley Road, Senacre. The Leeds bypass would access from Penfold Hill to the FourWents. The up- graded link road will provide relief on the B2163.


Newcouncillor Nicky Clifford’s application to join the councilwas accepted.


Footpaths It was noted that various private property signs had been put on land which had previously been used as footpaths. The clerk was to provide information showing the route of the footpath.


Jubilee Stone The Open Spaces committee was to address the problem of nettles and weeds at the site.


Carols and Lights 2014 The booking for the halls had been confirmed for November 28. Cllr Roz Cheesman was to make arrange- ments with the choir.


Donation requests It was resolved to make a donation of £150 to the Heart of Kent Hospice.


Bearsted play scheme It was noted that 20 children from Downswood attended the scheme last year. Itwas agreed to make a do- nation of £125 to the scheme.


Spring clean A significant amount of rub- bish was collected by helpers, mainly coun- cillors and their families.


Garden competition Councillors were asked for their nominations. Cllr Roz Cheesman was to establish with Cllr Anne-Marie Butler whether the school could assist with the judging.


Foxden Drive play area Maidstone Council said it had received four objections to the proposal and it was happy for an order to be placed withWicksteed’s for the sports


JEWELLERYwas stolen from a home in Eyhorne Street, Hollingbourne. Power toolswere stolen from a building


site next to Eclipse Park, Siingbourne Road, Maidstone. Therewas a burglary at a property in


Lock Lane. Computer equipment and bank paperswere stolen, aswas a vehicle, which was later recovered. Aproperty in Cowden Road, Vinters


Park,was burgled. Aquantity of cigareeswas stolen from a


lorry delivering to the Co-op inWillington Street, Maidstone. Awallet and documentswere stolen from


a white Toyota Hiace van in The Street, Ulcombe.


Documentswere stolen from a silver


Skoda Fabia in the car park at Tesco Stores, Grovewood Drive North,Weavering. Therewere aempted burglaries at two


sheds at the allotments in Lower Road, Leeds. Dieselwas syphoned from three vehicles


in a yard in Rose Lane, Lenham Heath. Ablue Lay-Z Spa hot tub, including


motor,was stolen from the garden of a home inWillington Street. Documentswere stolen from a home in Fontwell Close, Senacre.

Lenham Election Cllr Colin Gillettwas elected chair- man for the year ahead with Cllr Ewan Drylie as vice-chairman.


Garage Mr Watts presented an outline of the proposals for the development of the Texaco garage. Improvements would be made to the layout of the site and a larger retail area would be built with increased employment opportunities. Concerns of in- creased litter, parking and traffic would be taken into consideration. The poor visibil- ity of the south side of the A20 due to veg- etation growth was highlighted.


Police There had been 14 crime reports dur- ing the previous month.


Station Councillorswere keen to ensure im- provements to Lenham railway station were in keeping with the expected increase in passenger traffic if the proposed housing development takes place.


Resignation Following Cllr Bradshaw’s res- ignation letter, councillors thanked him for all his efforts on behalf of the parish council.


Otham


Chairman Cllr Mike Bottle was re-elected chairman for the year 2014/15 at the annual meeting of the parish council with Cllr Paul Aplin as vice-chairman. Cllr Bottle stated that due to increased business commit- ments, he could only accept the chairman- ship on the understanding that the workloadwould be shared more equally. It was agreed that allwould take more duties to assist.


Ulcombe


War memorial Work should have been completed by early July.


Village sign The renovation of the sign had been completed and the sign was looking resplendent.


Road closure Knowle Hillwould be closed from July 21 for up to five days for drainage and mud clearing work. Alternative routes would be via Eastwood Road, Windmill Hill and Lenham Road.


Damage The 30mph sign, white gates and bollards on Headcorn Road had been dam- aged andworkswere being programmed.


Potholes Repairs were continuing and Headcorn Road had been closed for this reason.


FourWents crossroad The clerk had spoken to KCC about the outstanding signage and was waiting for news on when this work would be completed.


Headcorn playscheme Ulcombe children aged 4-11werewelcome to apply for places at the playscheme at Headcorn Primary School. Application forms were available from the library.


Solar farms It was agreed that the council was opposed to solar farms on greenfield sites and would prefer a more robust dis- missal of these developments on good agri- cultural land where they cause loss of amenity or adverse impact on the land- scape.


Housing Members agreed they would like to see greater use of brownfield sites and a reduction in the housing projections. They were concerned at the large number of homes proposed for Harrietsham, Head- corn and Lenham because trafficwould in- crease through Ulcombe. The council agreed that the Leeds/Langley link road should be built before the new housingwas developed.


Travellers The councilwanted to see a more robust acceptance of the need to spread gypsy sites over the whole borough.


Potholes Those in Chegworth Road were now completed and the urgent phase three roadworks on the Headcorn Road were well underway.

Avenue, Maidstone, caused damage and stole cash. Asilver Mazda MX5 convertiblewas


stolen from Foley Street, Maidstone, but was later recovered damaged. Jewellery and awatchwere stolen in a distraction burglary at a property in Marston Drive, Vinters Park. The suspect was said to be white, about 5 7in, and aged about 40. Hewas of stocky build, scruffy, unshaven andwearing dirty light blue jeans and a dirty shirt. Therewas an aempt to burgle a property in Lower Street, Leeds.At the same time, a blue mountain bike with black and red flasheswas stolen from an outbuilding. Power toolswere stolen from a van on the


drive of a home in Plantation Lane, Bearsted. The suspectwas said to be a white man aged about 35. Hewas 5 10in tall and slim, with short dark brown hair, andwaswearing a high-vis vest over a long-sleeved blue top with dark trousers.

stolen from a shed in the garden of a home in HampsonWay, Bearsted. Ahydraulic ramwas stolen from a green/red Kubota agricultural vehicle on an industrial site in Bimbury Lane, Detling. Aquantity of red dieselwas also stolen. Ared 5 propane gas bolewas stolen


from a shed at the railway station at Eyhorne Street, Hollingbourne. Clocks andwatcheswere stolen from a


home in Fremlins Road, Bearsted. Ared Citroen Saxowas broken into and


its ignition barrel forced in Ashford Road, Maidstone.
