Online Auction For Elyse Leduc Brings Wonderful Results

drum roll here). “The horse community has sent a message loud and clear that when something like this happens, we can step up, pull together, and help one of our own. And

everyone who helped in any way by donating their stuff, their time and their delivery ser- vice. A special thank you to Samantha Rayanne White from PEI who saved the day by uploading over 80 items to the website that had suddenly arrived here in Ontario. Alyssa relays the good news (Insert

and Tiffany Stein worry about what would happen to Elyse’s horses, Peanut and Prada who take up so much of her time and pay- cheque. They decided to sell some used stuff and raise a bit of money and part of the fundraising was a silent auction the girls ran on Facebook which just ended. Alyssa gives Tiffany credit for coming up with the idea but neither girl could imagine it would have gone like this. The auction gained lots of attention and ended up surpassing their expectations by far. The girls were admittedly overwhelmed at times by the outpouring of love and support, not to mention donations (over 340 items actually) that filled their kitchens. The auc- tion grew to over 800 members and nearly 350 bidder numbers were given. Donations were generous with one bidder alone spending over $900 on stuff. The girls would like to say thank you to

horrific automobile vs transport story in our February issue. On January 27th, a 22 year old named Elyse Leduc was heading up Hwy 6 North on her way to her job in Guelph when she collided head-on with a transport truck. The violent collision on that snowy road destroyed her car and caused multiple life- threatening injuries to the young Flamborough girl. Injuries were so extensive, the fact she even survived teeters on a miracle. The horse loving pet store employee will spend months or a year even, in recovery. This made her friends, Alyssa Patcheson

they did. More than $20,000 was raised from the auction alone.” Figures are still being tal- lied from other fund raising efforts but the girls did an awesome job for their friend. Spe- cial shout outs go to Sandro Avila of Leash Out Pet Photography who came out and did a shoot of the Peanut and Prada for free and to Max from EquineLUX who offered its inno- vative English saddle pads and sheepskin half- pads with pockets to support Elyse by donat- ing 20% of its sales. Alyssa ends by saying, “Elyse, you are

Theraplate Is Shaking Up The Horse Industry

By Kelly Bowers Suzanne Pestano has spent

years promoting various natural therapies that she believes in and uses like magnets, lasers, chiro- practic, massage, stretching and natural supplements. After recently coming across Theraplate for the first time, she was curious to see if it was something that could also be of value to her hors- es. She decided to ask the opinion of Dr Brad Cumper from Saginaw Equine hospital in Michigan who has the units in his clinic and trav- els to the larger Quarter horse shows doing treatments. The more she heard the more she wanted to see if it could benefit her horses. She also heard that many top US quarter horse trainers use the Theraplate in their training barns as well. They tested the unit on her horses. One show mare was on and off lame from a fractured coffin bone acquired 2yrs earlier, and the second mare would get body sore and a little cranky from trailering too far. She had used massage, chiropractic, injections and supplements, which all have their place, but she wanted a daily treatment. After only a few months on the Theraplate, both horses seemed much more com- fortable. That was enough to con- vince her that this new therapy was something everyone should consider adding to their arsenal of preventative and treatments. When you watch a horse or

The difference though is Thera- plate’s proprietary 4 Zone Vortex Wave design which is a result of more than 30 years in the treat- ment and prevention of injuries and other debilitating conditions. The treatment can be utilized for treating horses and humans with- out causing impact on their joints or aggravating pre-existing condi- tions.

Theraplate is used with the

goal of increasing circulation, bone density, muscle mass and balance. It is said to help reduce inflammation and lameness, stress. It is also use to speed heal- ing, improve joint health, for hocks and stifles and to relieve pain. Hoof growth and digital cushion circulation are increased

and helps relieve OCD. Condi- tions such as under run heels and thin soles or high suspensory injuries, founder, laminitis, EPM have also been treated. The unit has equine users

from world class dressage, jump- ing, to racing and many western disciplines like reining, barrel rac- ing and performance. It provides low impact exercise for horses recovering from injury and will help improve muscle tone for horses on stall rest. Theraplate is also being utilized as a ten minute warm up for horses before riding. The unit comes with a booklet of treatment options that shows treat- ment setting and length of time.
