I’m happy to see that Larry, the staff and our partner, Matthews Publishing are getting back on track. I’m like many of you that look forward to reading about my fellow members’ successes and even sorrows every other month. I’m still one of the guys that read it cover to cover as soon as it arrives. I am very pleased to see that we will be adding a new feature in future publications that will add even more value for them in our publication. While most advertising helps create name awareness or establishes an Advertiser’s “brand”, we will now also offer a segment where they can also talk about, successes, events, and promotions within their companies. Keep an eye out for details on this and other improvements coming up.

I believe everyone that participated in the exercises left with a sense of accomplishment and a better perspective of our responsibilities as Executive Committee members.

Over all I’m very happy with the way our Association is run and will continue to run, if given the support of our leaders on the Executive Committee, the Board and our Members.

Te next topic that I’d like to share with everyone is that of a recent Strategic Planning Session that we held for the members of our Executive Committee. At the beginning of my second term, there was a lot of discussion among members of the Executive Committee that maybe we should take time out to assess where we’ve been, where we’re at and where we’d like to go as an Association. It was with this in mind that we challenged Larry and Patty with putting together a day long planning session with a professional “outside” facilitator. After much planning and pre-work in gathering information from our staff, a meeting was held at Mahoney State Park on March 21st. Our outside facilitator was a well-recognized professional, Carla Patterson, who was able to guide us through a number of discussions and activities to help define the duties and behaviors of a well-functioning board, which included better interactions with our President, staff, board members and our colleagues on the Executive Committee. Admittedly there was a lot to learn and share, but at the end of the day, our committee worked hard to come out with several projects to undertake over the next couple of months that will allow us to operate in a more transparent and productive manner.
