New deal helps Humber firm win business from the South
Humberside-based Neill & Brown Global Logistics has signed an exclusive agreement with northern Germany’s Nellen & Quack The Green Line for the UK and Ireland. The agreement consolidates
traffic from Gronau-based The Green Line, bringing it through the Humber and diverting it from other ports including Felixstowe and
significantly
increasing the amount of Germany-bound UK traffic through Hull, says Neill & Brown. The
two independent
companies have had a working relationship since early 2012 but the agreement will streamline the Germany/UK service. Neill & Brown’s managing director, Colin Moody described
it as
“a reflection of the excellent relationship that has developed
between the two well- established companies.” Neill & Brown’s director of
logistics Carl Andrew said that The Green Line chose to work solely with Neill & Brown on its UK business due to a combination of the good levels of service and the strategic central UK location of the Humber Ports and the M62 corridor. He added: “We have dedicated vehicles and drivers working for The Green Line which means that we provide a solid and expert service.
Since the exclusivity
agreement, shipments we receive from Germany have increased significantly in comparison to 2013, with March seeing a 600% increase and April 500%.” Products being shipped on trailers between the two
countries on the daily service include textiles, chemicals, non- hazardous and general goods, either as full loads or groupage. The Green Line’s managing
director, Uwe Brehm, commented: “Traffic to and from the UK has been our strongest for many decades. We are very proud of the partnership with Neill & Brown. I am convinced that our customers in the whole of
northern Germany will
benefit from their reliable and knowledgeable service.” Neill & Brown recently added new international partners
in
Greece, Holland, Turkey and Japan. It now offers 200,000 sq ſt of warehouse space and employs 107 staff, mainly at its Livingstone Road headquarters. It has also started developing a new £2.5m facility at Marfleet

Welsh freight report
published
The Welsh Government’s Freight Task and Finish Group has published its report on the future of the sector; Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science and Transport at Welsh Government, said that she will accept its recommendations. These include developing
intermodal freight networks, improving key trunk routes such as the A55 Expressway to Holyhead and the ‘import road’ linking the Holyhead port area with the A55. The Welsh Government should also take into account the potential for intermodal freight networks when developing land use plans and the potential for freight before disposing of port land. The Welsh Government
added that it would support reintroduction of lo lo container services at Holyhead- discontinued in the 1980s when Sealink axed its Holyhead Ireland link – although it recognises that Liverpool now has a dominant share of this traffic. The
Rail Freight Group
welcomed the publication of the report on 13 May, pointing out that many of the 24 recommendations support increasing use of rail, and multi-modal transport, and will help to inform the Welsh Government’s National Transport Plan for Wales, due for publication in March 2015.
