NEWS\\\ Pallet-Track goes European with Hellmann deal

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is to join the UK Pallet-Track network this September, giving the pallet carrier access to the forwarder’s 56-country European system. At the same time, the German forwarder and groupage operator will gain a more comprehensive UK network. Pallet-Track founder

and managing director, Nigel Parkes, said he long had ambitions to enter the European market, but only when the timing and the partnership were right: “This is a massive step for us

and the timing is perfect – we are expanding rapidly in the UK and enjoyed a record volume month in March,” said Mr Parkes. “Hellmann is in the top 30 largest freight companies in Europe. It works with some of the biggest international

household brands in almost 60 countries and has the scope and the vision to work with us across those European markets that we want to reach. In return, we can offer Hellmann a strong network, the right technology and

markets it wants to reach,” he said. The partnership will also

enable Hellmann to service three additional London postcodes and will generate around 25,000 deliveries a year within the Hellmann global network. Commercial director of

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics UK, Matthew Marriott, said: “The new partnership with Pallet-Track provides an exciting opportunity for Hellmann to really capitalise on its growing global network. After a positive start to the year,

and the continued success of our

Colnbrook distribution access to the key UK

depot, we’re confident that the relationship with Pallet-Track will only enhance our service levels. A lot of research was carried out and we made the decision that the partnership was perfectly suited to Hellmann.” Mark Pulford, a Pallet-Track

director, who was a key player in bringing the deal to the table, added: “It will increase our volumes from month one by 10% overnight, give us multi-modal access to the key markets of Europe, and give Hellmann the UK reach it requires. We have been negotiating for a number of months but it was clear early on that there is a synergy between our two businesses in terms of technology, ethos and family atmosphere.”

Palletways adds European links 17

Palletways has added new line haul services between London and Nijmegen, London and Paris, and Paris and Madrid as part of an upgrade of its London hub to an international terminal. The new services are expected to cut transits to Palletways’ European locations by 24 hours. Managing director of Palletways

Europe, Rachael Alpha, said: “The new line hauls will greatly improve efficiency, which is key as we look to expand our network across Europe and meet the high expectations of our customers”. Palletways has also improved

its international daily collection and delivery services to and from Denmark, cutting transit times by

up to 48 hours in many areas. Palletways

now provides

collection and distribution services across 13 European countries through a network of independent transport companies who share each other’s resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight.

FreightSafe launches in UK

Customers of freight companies, particularly small and medium- sized firms, oſten get an unpleasant shock if they ever have to make a claim for goods lost or damaged in transit. The legal compensation amounts in standard terms and conditions are usually fairly miserly and people can oſten be leſt feeling short-changed. A new warranty programme,

FreightSafe, aims to address this by offering customers the full value of any claims – and there is no excess, as is normal with road

freight goods in transit or marine insurance. The service is typically aimed at freight companies moving over 2,000 consignments a week, individual consignment values of up to £5,000 and a damage claims record of around five per 10,000 consignments. FreightSafe, which was

originally established in South Africa in 1995 and then expanded into Australia – and was adopted by companies such as TNT and Seabourne Group in South Africa, is now being launched in the UK

market. The FreightSafe warranty can

be offered to transport companies’ customers either as an add-on or rolled into the freight rate charged, says UK director Steve Zeff. He points out that it can be a significant extra income stream for transport companies operating on low margins and, because settlements are made within seven days and a higher percentage of claims are satisfied than with traditional insurance, it could be a significant customer retention tool.
