BRAND USA GOES ALL OUT TO ENTICE GULF VISITORS
Brand USA, the public-private partnership responsible for launching the USA’s co-ordinated tourism marketing effort, has been participating at Arabian Travel Market with its largest presence to date – an 82 percent increase on 2013. An increasing number of
direct flights by Gulf carriers and the establishment of
pre-clearance at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which is expected to facilitate ease of entry for visitors to America. Jay Gray, Brand USA’s Vice
President, Global Partnership Development, said: “We are proactively engaging with the Middle East in order to maximise the opportunities that increased direct flights, pre-clearance and
pent-up travel demand from the region offers.“ The US has witnessed an
unprecedented expansion of direct flights from the Middle East; Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC are all connected by at least one Gulf-based carrier. In addition to new direct-

air services between the two countries, a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility has been established at Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 3. It’s a purpose-built area that allows passengers on certain flights to the US to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections in Abu Dhabi prior to departure. Lufthansa and Germanwings, both members of the Lufthansa Group, will collectively fly GCC passengers to 235 destinations in 78 countries during the 2014 summer flight timetable, valid until October 25. The plan to hand over direct
flights from Lufthansa to Germanwings is proceeding in several stages, with no fewer than three-quarters of the connections to be flown by Germanwings during the summer. The connections include routes that do not operate through Lufthansa’s
Frankfurt and Munich hubs. Lufthansa is also modernising its long-haul fleet and, during the summer timetable only, will be adding six new intercontinental aircraft to its fleet that are more fuel-efficient and much quieter. Two new Airbus A380 aircraft will make it possible to extend the summer service on the routes from Frankfurt to New York (JFK), Beijing and San Francisco. The Boeing 747-8 fleet will also see further rapid
growth by autumn, with four new aircraft bringing the total to 14. For the first time, passengers will also be able to enjoy the comfort of the ‘Queen of the Skies’ on flights from Frankfurt to São Paulo, Brazil. In Europe, Lufthansa is
expanding its network to popular holiday destinations with flights from Munich to Lamezia Terme in the southern Italian region of Calabria and Bodrum in southwest Turkey.
