09-24 MAY [Live] Art Club for NNF2014 Norwich Arts Centre

Last year, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival birthed a new concept night at one of its characteristically lively and diverse venue homes: [Live] Art Club at Norwich Arts Centre. Tis year NAC once more picks up the baton for NNF2014, providing a late-night spot throughout the festival period. Barring Sundays, NAC will be holding a late night programme, featuring artists from across our region and a wonderful selection of East by South East Showcase Artists presented by Te Basement, Brighton. Across the programme, we’re promised “a real life teenager”, “dark, brooding synths” and some “bloody bad language”. You’ll have to investigate to find out more. 15 HOURS Free Childcare for Two-Year Olds Norfolk County Council

What will you do with your 15 reclaimed hours a week? Parents get a helping hand from Norfolk County Council, as up to 15 hours / week free childcare for two-year-olds is made available at nurseries, pre-schools, playgroups and childminders if you receive certain benefits. And now families receiving working tax credit with a household income under £16,190 are also eligible. Your two- year old will also benefit, as the early learning and childcare offered will help them learn through play, make new friends, and get a good start to education, all from approved providers. To find out if you qualify for a free place and for more information, visit www.norfolk.gov.uk/take2.

Drama, dance… and pigs can all be found in May’s NTR programme. Te month begins with the classic thriller ‘Dial M For Murder’, which runs until May 3, and follows a husband’s bid to bump off his wife with an apparently foolproof plan… or is it? Military banter is mixed with the stark realisation of the aftermath of life-changing battlefield injuries, both physical and mental, in the must-see ‘Te Two Worlds of Charlie F’, which runs from May 6-10. Te play won amazing reviews in the West End and sees lead roles played by former military personnel. Later in the month, Northern Ballet is back with ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Follow the fortunes of an emotion- packed ballet company as they jump on board a sleeper train; as they nod off, Shakespeare’s classic tale begins. Tis production from May 13-17 looks seriously stylish with costumes inspired by Dior. Te month ends with 1940’s austerity Britain-style ‘Betty Blue Eyes’. Based on the Alan Bennett movie ‘A Private Function’, it sees social- climbing couple Gilbert and Joyce Chilvers aiming for a slice of the ration-busting hog roast at a special function, by any means necessary. Will they bring home the bacon? Find out on May 27-31.
