CBCT technology

Sirona infuses confidence and knowledge

Innovative Dental Systems company is changing the face of dentistry with the first manufacturer’s course for CBCT operators in the UK

S

ince the first CBCT units were introduced in the UK, this relatively new technology that produces 3D volumetric image has revolutionised

how modern dental surgeons treat their patients. When used correctly, a CBCT volume

can have immense positive benefits for both the patient and clinician, but the current downside is that most clinicians haven’t had the opportunity to learn the skills to adequately interrogate 3D volumes of the dentoalveolar region. As the world’s leading supplier of CBCT machines, Sirona feel that we have a responsibility towards the safe use of our equipment and to assist our users. Consequently, after the recent release

of the latest position statement: Basic training requirements for the use of dental CBCT by dentists: a position paper prepared by the European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology, (Brown J, Jacobs R, Levring J¨aghagen E, Lindh C, Baksi G, Schulze D, et al.), we had the formula to put together our Sirona IRMER Operator Reporter basics for CBCT course, the first manufacturer’s course in the UK based on these guidelines. Of course, we needed a DMF Radi-

ologist capable of delivering the course to the highest standard and fortunately this was the easy part. Having had the privilege to work with Dr Neil Heath DCR(R),BDS,MSc,MFDSRCS,DDRRCR on another project, we knew he was a master of presentation and, his fluid style combined with his relentless knowledge, made him the perfect choice. Our first course was run over two days in

the Sirona UK headquarters at Heathrow and we had a mixture of cone-beam users, ranging from veteran GALILEOS users to new owners of our UK best selling XG3D. Without exception, each and every one of the candidates came away infused with confidence and knowledge regarding reporting and legal responsibilities

and better prepared to deliver clinical excellence. Our next course dates, which we are looking to run every eight weeks, will be released very soon and already we are close to being oversubscribed. We are extremely proud of our reputa-

tion for designing and supplying products that are changing the face of dentistry and

for setting industry standards by being best in quality, service and education.
