EVERLASTING LOVE
5 Tips For Staying In Love by sylvia rodemeyer
I have a healthy dose of sarcastic cynicism baked into my personality, so Hallmark holidays often receive an eye roll or two from me. While traditional Valentine’s celebrations feel a little forced, I use the day to celebrate my relationship and reflect on how to keep it the best it can be.
1. Say “I Love You” Every Day — And Mean It. This sounds simple, but it’s so important. Don’t just let it be the automatic reply after a kiss good night or the easy IM sign off, say it often and make it count. Letting your partner know they are loved and ap- preciated is a must.
2. Grow Together. No matter how great your relationship, it is always changing. As you both grow and evolve due to highs and lows in life, your relationship will be altered. If you’re lucky, you learn how to adapt together as a team, taking on new challenges and coming out the other end stronger.
3. Grow Individually. As fun as it is to delve into a new hobby or marathon- Netflix Orange Is The New Black with your one-and- only, don’t forget about yourself. Do what you love, even if your significant other isn’t into it. Find a new passion, make new friends and try new things. You fell in love with each other as individuals; make sure to keep your separate identities.
4. Go To Bed At The Same Time. Unless someone is out of town or sick, make it a point to go to bed together. A recent study by The Sleep Institute says sharing a bed is the ultimate intimacy. It suggests that this helps to lower stress hormones and encourage feelings of safety and security. And no matter what, always kiss each other good night.
5. Be Spontaneous And Thoughtful. Buy little gifts for no reason. Cook a favorite meal. Wash his or her car. Let ‘em sleep in. Do the chores that the other hates.
Never stop doing thoughtful things for the one you love.
