still have a stable suppression of the lignin production. It must be possible to improve the ethanol yield per tree by 50-100%”. In the poplar trees in the fi eld trial, the so-called ‘CCR-enzyme’ is suppressed. This enzyme plays a key role in the biosynthesis of lignin, but its suppression apparently does not lead to a uniform lowering of the amount of lignin. In a new fi eld trial that VIB will start in Wetteren, Belgium, this year, trees will be tested in which another enzyme
has been suppressed: the ‘CAD- enzyme’. In addition, a more modern way of suppressing the enzyme will be used. This new trial will therefore aid the search for modifi cations to provide a more uniform suppression of the lignin biosynthesis.

wide range of science-based information about all aspects of biotechnology.
An excellence-based
entrepreneurial organisation, VIB focuses on translating basic scientifi c results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. takes a consultative approach to delivering a total solution for industrial and port equipment comprising lift trucks from 6-70 tonnes, laden and unladen container handlers, reach stackers and hydraulic cranes (material handlers).
The general materials handling side of the business, formally known as Samuk Lift Trucks, will now be called Cooper Materials Handling Ltd. The newly-named business will operate as a sales company of the Maximal brand and represent the distribution link between the factory and the UK dealer network.
Cooper Handling Solutions Ltd is the dedicated division responsible for delivery and execution of parts supply, rentals, maintenance and
servicing for all brands represented by Cooper Group products. The new business creation also opens up opportunities for servicing of other competitive brands, thus broadening the Group’s scope and reach. Cooper Handling Solutions will have access to over £1 million of spare parts stock located in the newly acquired and extensively refurbished premises in Trafford Park, Manchester. It will also seek to grow its network of engineers nationally as opportunities arise.
In another key move, Cooper Handling Solutions will set up its own dealer business to supply products to end-users throughout the North-West of England.
