Resident in parking row

verify that the preceding three N3 permits issued in October 2013 for your previous property at Al- bany Street have subsequently been cancelled upon receipt of your initial email on December 3, which notified that you no longer reside in the N3 zone.” So, left with three parking per-
mits that are no longer valid and another two that are, Mr Beech has now asked borough council- lors Dave Naghi and Tony Har- wood to look into the issue for him. Both promised to do so. Mr Beech added: “I am sur-
prised at the council’s response. It does not seek to give any expla- nation as to why the cost is justi- fied. Therefore I can only assume it is down to greed and the as- sumption that residents will not complain. “I don’t mind paying for serv-
ices I use, but I don’t see why I should have to pay the full amount twice. Were you to pay your council tax upfront you would not be charged double should you subsequently move within the borough. I see no rea- son why parking services should be any different.”
News More housing planned
MORE homes could be built in Hollingbourne after Maidstone Council considered reclassifying its status.
Although not large enough to be
classed as a rural service centre – such as neighbouring Harrietsham and Lenham – a proposal in the new Maidstone local plan has upscaled Hollingbourne to the larger village classification, making it a natural tar- get for new development. However, it was given a stay of ex- ecution, after protests from parishes had the controversial item with- drawn, along with one to designate Yalding and Coxheath as rural service centres. Maidstone may have to pro- vide over 19,000 homes by 2031.

Larger villages are considered suit-
able locations for housing develop- ment, subject to the availability of acceptable sites. Hollingbourne has two pockets of residential areas, with Eyhorne Street being furthest away from the primary school and pre-school and a local playing field. There are no healthcare facilities
apart from an osteopath clinic, but it has a village hall, shop, post office, pubs and a restaurant. There is a rail- way station with good services and regular bus link to the town centre,
says the council’s report. Officers be- lieve the village can support key serv- ices – although schools and community facilities would need to be improved if the population was to grow. Two items to the November scrutiny committee were withdrawn after the parishes objected to the lack of consultation. However, it will be back on the agenda in January.
