Nina Grether head of marketing at StudyPortals tells us why it is the site to find a masters in Europe.

What is StudyPortals? StudyPortals is the international study to choice platform to find and compare Bachelors, Masters, PhDs and short courses (like e.g. summer schools) in Europe as well as online Education all over the world. We also publish scholarshipPortal. eu – a website to find the right funds to finance a study as well as STeXX.eu – a study review site. Our ultimate ambition is to make study choice transparent, worldwide.

Started at the end of 2007 as MastersPortal.eu, StudyPortals is a spin-off from a couple of large international study associations that saw a massive information gap for finding international masters in Europe. We cooperate with and are supported by the European Commission and many national institutes such as the DAAD (Germany), Nuffic (Netherlands), British Council (UK), Universidad. es (Spain) and many others. International Student Associations are still our key partners in further developing our services, as well as informing students about the assistance our portals can give them.

Our headquarters are in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. We are settled in a vibrant place with a lot of entrepreneurial companies around us. The team currently consists of 45 highly dedicated young people from 15 different countries. Most of the people working here studied abroad themselves and can therefore understand, feel and transmit the great experience one makes when studying abroad.

Aside from being a place to search for degree courses what else do the sites offer? Apart from helping students to find the right study programme we also offer a lot of useful information in form of articles, news on higher education topics, a customized news update and much more on our websites. Recently we launched EduCoach: a service that is aimed at providing personalized advice about studying in Europe. This includes the recently launched live chat with study experts as well as a webinar service, which will launch in Spring 2014. Students can subscribe to our newsletter to get personalized news and updates exclusive in programmes they are interested in. Over 100,000 students already subscribed to it.

Furthermore we launched the first study experience platform – it is a sort of TripAdvisor for study experiences. Students can rate and describe not only the university or programme but also everything around: housing, living in the city, atmosphere, costs and much more. Like that they help other students to make the right choice, which can be very valuable. Since 2013 we also award the best rated universities with the “student satisfaction awards” – a great addition to “usual” university rankings that mainly focus on the quality of education and research.

Do you work closely with universities if yes how have you built up such good relationships with them? Yes, we work close together with almost all big European universities as well as more and more universities outside of Europe. Currently we have around 1,500 participating institutes in over 40 different countries on our portals and this number is constantly growing. It is one of our highest priorities to build up and sustain

these relationships for a long time. Our first priority is to provide the best service for students – meaning to offer them a platform where they can compare all their options and can make a well informed choice. Like this we can make sure to get the best possible match between university/programme and the student – and that of course makes universities happy as well. We have also a dedicated team that helps universities with detailed statistics, advise on how to improve campaigns and we also guide them how to analyse their results.

Is studying in another country at postgraduate level becoming more popular? Yes, definitely! More and more students decide to study abroad. Some just go for one semester, some for a year and not a few also decide to do a full degree in another country. Especially since the Bologna process that made an exchange within Europe much easier and less complicated for student. But students of course also notice that their career chances will improve if they can show international study experience. In today’s highly competitive job market study abroad experience becomes more and more relevant – if not even essential for many big companies.

How do I sign up to StudyPortals?

Every student can use and search all our websites for free. We also recommend signing up for the personalized newsletter to receive monthly updates on new programmes but that is not obligatory. Signing up is very easy and also possible via Facebook.
