The medical school at Texas A&M is often called the best in the United States, and its College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences produces around one in ten of the US’s veterinarians.


Outside of the public systems, which also include Texas State, Texas is also home to William Marsh Rice University, more commonly referred to as Rice. Based in Houston, with around 6,000 students, Rice ranked 117 in the QS World University Rankings and is one of the most prestigious not-for-profit universities in the US. 2012 marks Rice’s centennial year. Rice is very much a research-focused university and is perhaps best known for its applied science programs. Curl Jr, Richard Smalley and Hermann Joseph Muller, and former US attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
