like a dying tree, it traps stale chi. By the same token, if you have a live tree, dispose of it as soon as you notice that it begins to change colors or wilts.

With the new year, comes new prospects and ambitions. Perhaps there is a promotion you have been eyeing and you want your superiors to consider you for the job. Or perhaps you are thinking of switching jobs and want to land a job that is better than the one you currently have. Well, thanks to Feng Shui we can make a few modifica- tions to your current arrangements and move things in the positive direction for you. South represents fame and recognition, the color red and the element fire. To activate this sector to get you that promotion, simply hang a picture with red elements in it. If you could find a picture of a phoenix, that would be the ultimate picture to hang in the south sector since phoenix is the animal that governs the south and it has the red ele- ment). You could put your Christmas tree in the East, flowers in the southeast and a picture (with red ele- ments) on the south wall. You could also just leave a light (fire) on in the south sector of the room or house until you get that promotion. You could also paint the south wall red, orange or yellow. If you choose to do the extreme, which is to hang a picture, leave a light on and paint the wall, be sure to balance out the décor in the rest of the room by adding some ‘yin’ energy to it. This can be done by adding some blue, black, white or purple furniture, carpet, rug or decorative ornaments to the room. Fire, red and orange are ‘yang’ energy.

North represents career prospects, the colors black and blue and the element water. To activate the north sec- tor of the room or house in order to secure a better job, hang a picture with blue or water elements in it, such as a picture of a river, an ocean, a beach or fishes. You may also put an aquarium here. Painting the wall is another option. Hence, your room could potentially look like this Christmas tree in east, flowers in southeast, light on in south and a picture on the north wall. Or it could look like this, Christmas tree in the east, wood decora- tive ornament in the southeast, red/orange South wall and an aquarium in the north. However you choose to decorate or arrange your room, stick to these feng shui tips and you cannot go wrong.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice that has been around for over 1,500 years. It means ‘wind and water’ and is based on the theory that man must live in har- mony with his environment so that he may always enjoy positive energy (chi) flow and prosperity. ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ is that balance of energy.
