Following Baker Tilly’s acquisition of the trading operations of RSM Tenon in September, the RSM Tenon office in Southampton was rebranded as Baker Tilly from October 1.
The Southampton office, which has 15 partners and 150 staff, is one of the 35 RSM Tenon UK offices being rebranded as part of the integration of the two firms.
Baker Tilly is now the seventh largest accountancy firm in the UK, with annual revenues of £350 million, and over 4,000 staff and partners working across more than 50 offices, but this is the first time that the brand has had a presence in Southampton.
John Taylor, office managing partner for Baker Tilly
Southampton, said: “The process of fully integrating the two firms will take some time, but this rebranding exercise is an important first step in establishing the Baker Tilly brand in the Southampton market.
“Baker Tilly is a major provider of accounting and business advisory services to privately- owned businesses, entrepreneurs, smaller listed firms, not-for-profit organisations, and high-net-worth individuals, so it is a perfect fit with RSM Tenon’s existing local client base.
“This merger will allow the firm to expand and strengthen its offering to existing and prospective clients and intermediaries in the local area.“
University becomes ODI partner
The Open Data Institute (ODI) has awarded honorary founding partner status to the University of Southampton in recognition of its exceptional contribution to the setup and development of the organisation. It comes exactly 12 months after the ODI’s move to its London HQ.
Since the ODI’s inception, the University has provided expertise, practical advice and, in the very early stages, seed funding. On an ongoing basis, Southampton remains a key partner.
The ODI’s chairman and co- founder Sir Nigel Shadbolt is also professor of artificial intelligence at the University – which provides
academic guidance and hands-on support in the delivery of the ODI’s training programme.
ODI commercial director Stuart Coleman said: “The University has played a seminal role in the design, conception and implementation of the ODI. In fact, the ODI could not have been conceived, launched and sustained without the bedrock of support the University has provided. In recognition of this commitment the ODI is delighted to afford the University honorary founding partner status. Moving ahead, our teams will continue to collaborate as our partnership expands to focus on the provision of core training, education and research-related services.“
Portsmouth Technopole celebrates a decade of innovation
Dozens of businessmen and women gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a record- breaking business and innovation centre in Portsmouth.
A wall plaque was unveiled to mark the milestone for Portsmouth Technopole, which provides office space and support services for 40 start- ups and early-stage firms. With occupancy levels of more than 90%, Portsmouth Technopole is run by Oxford Innovation, which
manages 21 centres across the UK.
Upwards of 150 people work for a diverse range of firms at the 20,000 sq ft landmark building at Kingston Crescent, by the M275, with hundreds of other jobs underpinned through a region- wide supply chain.
Guests heard from long-standing occupiers how the innovation centre environment frees them up to do what they do best.
