Local firm sponsors UK swimmer

Chartered accountants and business advisers Wilkins Kennedy LLP has announced a sponsorship deal with champion swimmer Oliver Jermy, who will be representing England in the World School Games – ISF Gymnasiade 2013 international swimming championships in Brazil at the end of this month.

Jermy, 16, from Hampshire, is a student at South Downs College and joined Havant and Waterlooville swimming club over five years ago.

Working his way through the squads, he currently trains for 13 hours a week and has represented his school in swimming competitions for several years.

He participated in the national swimming championships in August in Sheffield, competing in six events across multi disciplines and distances, reaching several semi-finals and finals and winning a silver medal in the 400 individual medley. He also recently participated in the Sainsbury’s 2013 Schools Games in Sheffield.

Jermy has been nominated by Hampshire Schools Swimming Association for the Michael Austin

Harlech award. He will find out next month if he has been successful during their celebration of sport evening.

Jermy’s mother, Mandy Jermy, said: “He has been working really hard with his coach Graham Pople at the Havant and Waterlooville Swimming Club and we are extremely proud of his achievements – Oliver takes his training one day at a time and doesn’t get phased.“

Jermy said: “It was quite a shock when I found out that I was going

to compete in Brazil. I have been working hard on following my training plan and I am really looking forward to my first big international competition.“

Claire Peers, Wilkins Kennedy marketing director, said: “At Wilkins Kennedy we are strong believers in supporting young people and the local community. Oliver is a gifted swimmer and we are delighted to be supporting him at such a prestigious international competition – we wish him the best of luck.“
