36 hospitality More choice when it comes to venues

Halo Conferences and Events has launched two new function suites at St Mary’s Stadium, extending venue choice for businesses and organisations across the Solent region

The first is a ’super box’, comprising an exclusive box which can hold up to 24 delegates, boardroom style, for meetings and dinners – featuring fantastic views across the whole pitch. The second is the Presidents’ Suite, available for a range of different functions, which can cater for up to 200 dinner guests. This room was designed with a private entrance, rest rooms and kitchen, making it the perfect ’exclusive’ function space and private dining room.

Samantha McGrath, head of sales and new business development, explained: “Our facilities have been reconfigured and due to the demand at the stadium there was a need to increase conference and meeting room facilities. The ’super box’ gives us the flexibility to work with event organisers who are seeking smaller function spaces.

“We recognised the need for a quality option somewhere in the middle to accommodate our guest numbers. This addition makes us highly versatile, with up to 9 function suites and 45 executive boxes.“

Based at Southampton Football Club, Halo organises all aspects of functions and one-off events at St Mary’s Stadium and in

Southampton’s extensive network of cruise liner terminals, as well as providing quality outside catering in the region. It has not only experienced an increase in the number of large corporate companies and national brands wanting to book the facilities, but also continues to cater exclusively for the city cruise terminals, which can cater for up to 2,500 guests.

Halo also announced a new partnership with the Global Ocean Race at the recent Southampton Boat Show, whereby it will be closely involved with the race in the build-up period and during the start next September.

Erik Ammer, Halo’s director of catering, events and hospitality, continued: “This event will bring new and exciting opportunities to Southampton and our business. We are honoured to be working with race director Josh Hall and his team, who, with sponsors and partners, have brought a unique event to our doorstep.’’

events and hospitality. “The Boat Show is a great platform for us to promote Halo as the preferred hospitality partner for the GOR.“

The GOR had two Class40s at this year’s Boat Show and race director Josh Hall was overwhelmed by the positive reaction from visitors and the support from international and South Coast businesses. He said: “The Show has been a tremendous success for the GOR. We’ve had a constant stream of visitors stepping onto the boats and it has provided a perfect showcase for introducing potential race partners and sponsors to the concept of offshore racing. It’s a great pleasure and a boost to the profile of our race that a leading local business, Halo Conferences and Events, has confirmed a partnership with us.“

Ammer added: “This event will bring new and exciting opportunities both to Southampton and to our business. Josh Hall has truly brought a unique event to our doorstep and we are honoured to be working with him and his team along with the sponsors and partners.’’

New head chef for Lainston House

Olly Rouse has been appointed head chef at the Lainston House hotel in Winchester, part of the Exclusive Hotels group. The move was announced by Exclusive Hotels’ managing director Danny Pecorelli.

Rouse was previously head chef at John Campbell at Coworth Park, where he helped to win a Michelin star and three AA rosettes. Prior to that he worked at the Vineyard at Stockcross as sous chef and Pétrus under Gordon Ramsay Holdings, as well as Le Meurice and the Fat Duck.

Commenting on the move, Rouse said: “Lainston House has everything I’ve been looking for in a property. I cannot wait to work with the team and grow our food philosophy in a really natural way.

“Our surroundings will be our inspiration to drive the food in the restaurant. We will embrace our kitchen garden and set out to utilise all it produces, with interesting combinations created to intrigue and give the feel-good factor. Diners can expect dishes that are complex in flavour and texture, with simple yet elegant presentation. We will be using many old and forgotten techniques and the very best of British ingredients to produce dishes that will take health and the environment into consideration.“
